DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNICATION MEDIA FOR CHILDREN The department of Communication Media for Children is a Unique one and only one of its kind in India. The Master s course offered is innovative and multidisciplinary. It focuses on both educational and recreational needs of children between 3-12 years and trains women in producing a variety of media material in traditional (Puppets), electronic media (audio-video/ computers) as well as writing for children. OBJECTIVES To train women into a fast growing field of mass media with special interest in producing material for children To develop prototype media material for children and test its effectiveness. To develop a resource center and become a clearinghouse of media material for and about children. To develop a research center dealing with children and media. MASTER'S PROGRAM The department offers a two-year master's course in Communication Media for Children with the objective of training professionals in the field of media, who are sensitive to the needs of the children. There are three focus areas of study: a. Electronic Media b. Puppetry & Theatre c. Writing The program focuses equally on theoretical course work and practical experience. Other than regular subjects offered in mass communication courses, there are innovative courses like `Social Psychology of Recreation, `Children & media', Creative activities, Puppetry & Theatre and `Communicating to Children. These courses have been especially designed to meet the needs of this program. RESEARCH CENTER In the past few years we have identified and initiated research in the field of children and media. Our areas of research have been, Media Education,
Children s literature, Use of Media for therapeutic purposes, Children and Media Violence, Media Utilization by children, Children, Body Image and Media Usage, Children and Social Networking and other uses of Internet. The faculty has also presented papers in conferences based on other small researches conducted by them from time to time. MEDIA LABORATORY The department has professional digital, Beta cam shooting & editing equipment, a still photography lab, with facility of black and white developing and an acoustically treated studio facility with lights OUTREACH ACTIVITES The department is involved with several schools and NGO s in Pune to conduct creative activities, reading and writing enhancement activities, media education and value education. DEPARTMENTAL ACTIVITIES Other activities of the department and the faculty besides teaching, learning and evaluation are Conduct seminars on subject related themes for faculty and students Organize exhibitions and displays of students works for parents, school and college students to create awareness about the multi facets of Home Science education Conduct programs for and by the alumni Provide hands of experiences to students in shooting, editing live programs like college and university functions, film festivals etc. Guidance, mentoring and counseling students Participate and present papers in conferences and seminars conducted by academic institutions Create learning resources, contribute articles, write books in subject areas Conduct local field trips and educational tours for students Head of the Department: Prof. Radha Misra
Admission to the Master s program in Communication Media for Children. Eligibility: Graduate from any discipline from a recognized university / institution with a minimum B grade or 50% marks at graduation is eligible. Admission process: It will consist of written test & personal interview on 24th & 25 June 2014. Candidates are expected to be present for the same on 24th June 2014 Last date of submission of the application form is 20th June 2014. FEES Fees for the course are approx. Rs. 20,000 per year. (This is subject to change). DURATION : 2 YEARS. RULES OF CONDUCT 1. A student joining the college for the first time shall be required to purchase an identity card. One copy of her photograph (size 2" X 1") must be attached to it and the other copy should be submitted to the college office for record. A student should carry the Identity card with her at all times and should produce it whenever required. This card has to be renewed every year and surrendered before leaving the college. Fine of Rs. 50/- will be charged, if I- Card is not found with the student whenever demanded. In case of loss of identily card, new card will be issued only once on payment of a fine of Rs. 100/- 2. Students must be regular in attendance and be punctual. Students must have in a minimum of 75% attendance in each course to be eligible to appear for the semester end examination. 3. In case of sickness, college office/respective department should be informed immediately. In case a student requires long leave, permission should be taken from the head of th department by submitting application alongwith medical certificate. 4. Students are responsible to the HOD for their behaviour both in and outside the college. They should not represent the department without written permission of the head. 5. No one should attend classes other than their own without prior permission of the teacher concerned. 6. Students are required to handle equipment and furniture carefully and also help in maintaining the premises neat and clean. They are to follow instructions of safety in the laboratory. 7. A student should not directly or indirectly participate in any activity which in the opinion of the head or any university official is or may be detrimental to the working of the college or the interests of the members of the staff. Activities of the student organisation should be carried out with prior permission of the head. 8. Visitors are not permitted in the college premises. Correspondence at the college address is also not permitted. Right of admission and entry to the college campus is reserve. 9. A student shall be allowed to discontinue her studies only on receipt of a written request to that effect from her guardian/ parents.
10. If a student desires to discontinue her studies from the second term, she should inform the HOD in writing accordingly before the end of the first term, failing which it is necessary to pay the fees for the second term 11. Use of mobile phones by students inside the college buildings is prohibited. A fine of Rs. 200/- will be charged. 12. Switch off the lights and fans while leaving the class-room 13. Do not keep heavy cash and jewelery in your possession 14. Do not litter in Campus and do not scribble on the walls and damage.
