What are the national changes and why? KS2 KS3 KS4 Post 16 Raising expectations and outcomes in an increasing global market.
GCSE REFORMS All be in summer 2019 no early entry. ALL will be the new, reformed exams. New grading systems. Linear Exams. Multiple papers in each exam over 20 different exams to be sat. SOME courses will include Controlled Assessment. The majority will be exam only with scaled down CA Changes to accredited courses.
Grading and pass rate implications. All GCSEs will be 1-9 grading. Technical awards will be Pass/Merit etc. Increased level of challenge in the new specifications. Approx 6.8% nationally achieve A* Approx 58% nationally achieve A*-C in the basics.
Current Assessment for existing qualifications. An A* candidate would be expected to A grade B candidate would be expected to BUT There is a margin of adjustment
The new 1-9 is Norm Based Referencing ALL SCORES 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1
What 1-9 roughly equates to.. 9 top half of A* 8 bottom half of A*/ top third of A 7 mid to low A 6 top two thirds of B 5 bottom third of B/top third of C 4 bottom two thirds of C 3 grade D 2 grade E and top quarter of F 1 remainder of grade F and G. U - unclassified
Assessment And Reports at GCSE ALL years are now assessed on the 1-9 GCSE grading system, and for GCSEs. For example - grade 3a. (equivalent to a top D). Technical Awards are graded al level 1 and 2, and Pass/Merit/Distinction. All subjects have revised their Schemes of Work to increase the new level of challenge across all year groups.

The Content A lot of topics have been moved from Higher tier only to both Foundation and Higher tiers, which means that the Foundation papers will be much harder than now. Some topics have been moved from AS-Level Maths into Higher tier G.C.S.E. Maths.
Changes at both Higher tier and Foundation tier. There is an increase in the number of topics covered on the new G.C.S.E. with a greater emphasis on depth and problem-solving including using Mathematics in unfamiliar situations. Higher tier will include questions that will stretch the most able. Foundation tier will focus on core mathematical understanding and skills for all students to master. Pupils will need to learn a lot more formulae for the new G.C.S.E.

English GCSE Entry 2019 These are compulsory courses for students entering Year 10.
The preparation and assessment of Spoken Language is a compulsory requirement of the course of study and will be assessed internally. It will appear on students GCSE certificates as a separately reported grade.

QUALIFICATION REFORM 2 Pathways Available : GCSE : Electronics, Textiles, Food, Resistant Materials. Technical Awards : Specialisms as above plus Visual Communication. Level 1 and 2.
New GCSE Design & Technology There is a certain amount of core content across all options. Exam 50% of final grade. 10% Core Content 15% Maths and Science 75% subject content Non examined assessment is 50% of the final grade. Design and Make Project.
Technical Awards (developed by AQA) Level 2 qualification (the same as a GCSE) Fashion and Textiles Food and Catering Materials Technology Visual Communication
Technical awards Exam 40% Based entirely on subject specific knowledge. Non examined assessment 60% 30% based on 12 core practical skills completed in class 30% based on a Design and Make project completed in class
