I have lived In Hermosa Beach for 23 years; have a loving husband and three boys who are presently students at Hermosa Valley School, USC and Michigan State. I have been a parishioner at Our lady of Guadalupe for many years and enjoy being actively involved with the our community. Our Lady of Guadalupe School Spanish Class Overview TK 2 nd Grade Vision on Curriculum Some educators believe only target language should be used in the classroom. I view that the Spanish only setting to be a GOAL rather than a rule. Sometimes, in order to decrease anxiety and establish routine and give direction English will be used. Monthly Unit lesson presentations I utilize a lot of visuals in the elementary grades.. (posters, power points, books and many more ) TK & Kinder - Exposure to Spanish through Music of Jose Luis Orozco consistently in the background.. Introducing concepts in everyday Spanish; Greetings, Alphabet, Colors, Numbers, days of the week, Months of the year, Seasons, Community, Pet themes and weaving in cultural Hispanic events throughout the year.. In classroom lessons; will include themed lesson plans, consistent audio concepts through music and interactive games to reinforce lessons learned Suggested at home activities Very minimal recommended to Reinforce Conversational basics through exposure on Spanish tv shows and community cultural events. I will utilize Red Spanish Warning Cards to remind students make good choices - They will receive two verbal warnings after that a red card will be sent home and student will not be able to participate in Spanish Fun Friday. Spanish Fun Fridays Spanish PE Students will participate in outdoor active participation games intergrading Spanish vocabulary; body parts, Physical education, numbers, Spanish charades and many more activities to offer students an opportunity to apply their newly learned Spanish comprehension skills At home Reinforcement Your student will be given a reference booklet filled with practical tools to encourage at home Spanish Skill building (the booklet will stay at home for the duration of the school year). HW packets will be sent home the first week of October and to be returned to class on the date stated on the packet front page. Please encourage your student to work on a few pages per week NOT all at once and to complete in chronological order that the packet it is composed as it flows along with in class lesson plans.
