The electronic newsletter, aptly named NBS Tidings is a good way to keep the stakeholders as well as other portals in the campus informed about the numerous events happening in NBS. As a first step in this direction I urge the Department to take greater leaps in the near future to make this department a renowned name in this sector. NSHMBusiness School (NBS) Durgapur is a happening place where every care is taken to make the students industry-ready. Recently, the HR Manager of a well-known luxury retailer approached us for hiring some interns saying that NSHM Business School Students are highly motivated, carry the right attitude and are great performers. Her remark is an endorsement of the academic process we follow to transform our students. We at NBS have innovated a number of academic tools and processes since our inception. These innovations have given us encouraging results. In fact these innovations are not one-time happenings, we constantly improve and fine tune them. Corporate Style Retreat for Students, New Management Simulation Games, Learning Plans for each subject that complement University Syllabus with a number of pedagogy tools, are just a few to mention. Page 2 Blind Taste Test NBS Tidings Above-Organizing team of the Blind Taste Test after the event with the NBS Faculty Members. Right-Respondents going through the process of sipping cola brands. Blind Taste Test is an innovative Marketing Research activity where respondents taste different types of cola brands and identify them. It helps in judging the brand loyalty. This is a Simulation Pedagogy tool for the subject Marketing Research. Above-Participants sipping different brands of colas as the organizing team record the data. The data was then analyzed and a report was generated for more than 100 respondents as to how many could identity all three cola brands correctly. Unit Head and Senior GM Mr. P.K. Durgapur with the NBS students Industrial Visit The industry visit for MBA students was held this time around at the manufacturing facility of Supreme Industries Ltd. Durgapur. It helped students to gain an insight into the overall production and operations process of moulded furniture manufacturing. Students at the Seminar Hall of Supreme Industries Ltd. Durgapur for an interactive session with the managers. Corporate Retreat Corporate Retreat is an innovative activity where the students are taken outside the campus to engage in various activities which would hone their managerial skills. Above-MBA students with the Faculty Members after the Corporate Retreat. Right-students test their muscle power in a funfilled exercise. A leadership Simulation Exercise is on during the Corporate Retreat.

Early Internship Program (EIP) Another innovation from NBS is the Early Internship Program. Students, even before starting the curriculum, are exposed to the corporate world to get a feel of the life there. Students of Early Internship (2015-17) taste their first success in the corporate sector as they stand with their completion certificates from Shoppers Stop. Page 6 Management Development Programs MDP on Finance and Control NBS Tidings Prof (Dr) Ashok Kumar Mukherjee, NSHM Business School, Durgapur was assigned by VERDE VENTURES PVT LTD Kolkata to execute Training programme on Financial Management for Finance Managers of Power Grid Co. of Bangladesh Ltd. The programme was conducted successfully during 8th June-22nd June 2015 with Dr Ashok Mukherjee and Dr Arun Upadhaya, Assistant Professor, NSHM Business School Durgapur as the Resource Persons. Above-Dr. Arun Upadhaya with foreign participants of the MDP. MDP on Developing Winning Competencies for the Marketplace NSHM Business School conducted a Management Development Program for IFB Agro Industries Ltd on the above area in its Campus on 12th Feb 2015. Twenty four Marketing and Sales Executives of the company attended the day-long programme spanning over six sessions. Dr Bijay Bhujabal, Principal, NBS Durgapur was the Resource Person for the MDP. Newly Joined Volume 1, Issue 1 Page 7 Mrs. Amrita Bhattacharya Joined NBS Durgapur from 1st September 2015 as an Assistant Professor. She has more than eight years of experience in the corporate world in the international sector. She has worked in Switzerland in the Logistics and Operations sector for 3 years. In India she was the head of her company in the Logistics and operations department. She is a Gold Medallist in MBA from West Bengal University of Technology. Coal Trans 2015 Mrs. Amrita Bhattacharya attended the Coal Trans 2015 seminar in New Delhi where the coal sector developments was discussed between different related companies. It was clear from the discussion that coal import is expected to rise by at least 2 % in this fiscal year. Hence it is important to have a coal regulatory body examining these operations. Jindal, Adani NTPC to increase their coal consumption. Later in the coming months it was seen that Jindal decided to stop buying metallurgical coal from Australia. China being the most promising supplier of metcoke in India the major imports directed towards China. New coal producing countries also took part in the discussion like Nigeria, Mongolia. There were ship owners who took part in the discussion as well to understand their allocation of he vessels in this sector for bulk cargo movements. The Coal Trans gave a good overview on the imports and the logistics part that needs to be taken care in the following months to avoid the loopholes in between and meet the high demand of coal in India.
