We are pleased to present our 17-18 council to you: Co- Chairs: Amy Silva and Caroline Ryder Treasurer: Dominic Gniewek Secretary: Cheryl Sauve Giving Thanks We are so grateful for a smooth transition to the new year. We have many new families, and we continue to receive many requests for registrations. Our students have settled into the learning mode and are becoming involved with a variety of extra curricular activities. September weather was certainly not what one would expect, but we are grateful that we did not experience much rain to keep us indoors. Many parents have offered to volunteer in the classroom, on council and on field trips, which is wonderful! We appreciate how busy you are and are grateful that you devote some time to our school community All parents and staff are invited to every meeting. Please consider joining us in our efforts to work together for the benefit of all children of St. Anthony Catholic School. ST ANTHONY S FRENCH IMMERSION SCHOOL Page 2 We are gearing up for a fabulous fall of reading with a Scholastic Book Fair from Oct. 3 to 6 theme. There will be hundreds of books in French and English for sale, as well as school supplies and gift items. One lucky student will win prizes for his or her family and class. The dates and times for the Scholastic Book Fair will be: Tuesday, Oct. 3 8:3 a.m. to 4 p.m. Previews only Wednesday, Oct. 4: 8:3 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 5 8:3 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6: 8:3 a.m. to 12 noon. Our Book Fairs connect students to books they want to read. To help your child find the newest and best books, he or she will visit the Fair during class time. Students will be allowed to purchase books during that visit, but we also encourage you to look over the highlights flyer with your child. If you cannot attend, you may use the Student Wish List order form and send it back, along with the correct amount of money, to the school with your child. You are more than welcome to drop in and shop during the Book Fair s hours of operation. Thank you for encouraging your child to read. By purchasing books and supporting our Book Fair, you enable our school to obtain new resources for our school and classroom libraries. This year, we are hoping to send as many students as possible to the Forest of Reading celebration in May with some of the Book Fair profits. At the fall Scholastic Book Fair sale last year, we raised $1, in cash to benefit St. Anthony students. We accept cheques made payable to our school or cash. Visa, MasterCard, American Express and debit cards are welcome, too. Sincerely, Mme Brinkman Book Fair Chairperson Follow us on Twitter Get up-to-date information on a regular basis by following us on twitter. @StAnthonyLondon Sign up for Remind - Text @mrsmarent to (226)271-2116 or to receive messages via email, send an email to mrsmarent@mail.remind.com

As a French Immersion school, it has been the trend that English reading and writing improves significantly by Grade 6. As a school, we are continuing to focus on student learning in Mathematics. We are currently reviewing the EQAO math questions to determine which type of question poses particular challenges for our students. We are very proud of our students, and we will work together to ensure that improving student learning remains the focus of our school improvement plan.

ST ANTHONY S FRENCH IMMERSION SCHOOL Page 5 Catholic Graduate Expectations This year, instead of monthly virtues, we will focus on the Catholic Graduate Expectations. We are starting with: A responsible citizen who gives witness to Catholic social teaching by promoting peace, justice and the sacredness of human life. 1. Acts morally and legally as a person formed in Catholic traditions. 2. Accepts accountability for one's own actions. 3. Seeks and grants forgiveness. 4. Promotes the sacredness of life. 5. Witnesses Catholic social teaching by promoting equality, democracy, and solidarity for a just, peaceful and compassionate society. 6. Respects and affirms the diversity and interdependence of the world's peoples and cultures. 7. Respects and understands the history, cultural heritage and pluralism of today's contemporary society. 8. Exercises the rights and responsibilities of Canadian citizenship. 9. Respects the environment and uses resources wisely. Notes from the office: Please ensure we have current up-to-date contact information for all students. Should there be an emergency or a need to call home, we cannot get in touch with parents if the number has changed and we have not been notified. Student verification forms have gone home with all students and should be updated with the most current information including current address, phone numbers and emergency contacts. Merci! Mme Michienzi and Mme Moore Thank you! A big thank you to our older students who have volunteered to be bus patrollers this year. Thanks also to our many volunteer bus helpers who guide our kindergarten students from the bus to the courtyard each morning. Your help is very important to the safety of all! Merci!

Did you know that many children are not aware that they have a vision problem? This can make School difficult because % of what children learn is based on what they see. Help your child succeed in school. Make an appointment with an optometrist for an eye exam. Children should have at least one eye exam before to beginning school followed by an annual exam through age 19. Your child s health card (OHIP) provides coverage for an annual eye exam for Children aged to 19. For more information, visit the Ontario Association of Optometrists website: https://www.optom.on.ca From Your Ppublic Health Staff
