We look forward to forging strong and lasting relationships with you and the students, as together, we support your children on their journey of life at The Mann School. We also welcome our existing students, on turning a new chapter of their lives as students in the new classes one in which we trust that they will continue to grow in knowledge, and be able to plan for their lives. As we begin new session (2017-18) I thought it would be worthwhile to spend a little time reviewing where we have reached in the progress of your children so far and what they can achieve in this year. The previous session saw The Mann School achieving a number of milestones: The levels of students national and international pursuits are improving every year through their participation at various state, national and international activities. The students of The Mann School set a record at the Innovation Fair, 2017, held at National Science Delhi from 20 th January 2017. Five, out of seven projects submitted, were selected by the jury of eminent scientists in category A and B, the selected projects have been approved by CSIR and IISF. A team of 4 students went to participate in the 2 nd Sarla Birla Memorial Business Quiz 2016, organized at Birla Vidya Mandir, Nainital where they won the second runners up trophy. This should infuse confidence in parents and students that The Mann School is a provider of academic excellence and rigour. I also take this opportunity to specially mention that school has been encouraging both students and parents to correspond through emails as it not only saves the paper, but also helps our environment. I do appropriate the cooperation extended by majority of the parents for the same for supporting the drive. The steps taken by the school in this regard are given below: (i) Circulars / Letters to parents will now be sent through email. The parents email IDs, as given by students, are being updated in school record. (ii) The result of all Weeklies/ Terminal exams are being sent through emails and also made available on school website. (iii) In future also home assignments for summer / winter break will be made available to parents & students through emails. (iv) A Parent Portal has specially been made on school s website to facilitate parents to check the students profile, results, fee paid / received, personal account details (for boarders only) / the events in which students participated. (v) Parents can also give their valuable feedback and make queries through parent s portal. (vi) School calendar has already been made available through the school website. We request parents to regularly update their Email Ids/Phone No/ Address, in school record, so as to have smooth interaction. It may be added that: (i) To promote digital learning among students, the school has decided to introduce Tablets along with the books in the academic session (2016-17) for classes VII - VIII. The books were however optional for those who have tablets. The students have been encouraged to use Tablets last year and looking at the response from students, the school has now implemented the same for classes VI to IX in this session (2017-18). I request the parents to send their confirmation through email so that execution can be planned accordingly. Following options are available for Tablets:-

The content/software in Tablets will be installed by the School s IT Department. In addition to that, they can also be issued Digital Textbooks, Content Modules and Learning Application this year (2017-18). The text books, which have been uploaded on tablet, need not to be purchased by students. Your confirmation along with the payment regarding the model of Tablets be intimated at the earliest so that the same can be implemented for the rest of the Class in July 2017. You can deposit the cost of the tablet, along with installation cost of the software. The cost of installation of software will be as mentioned below. Class VI 6610/- VII 6600/- VIII 6900/- IX 5760/- X 5760/- Installation cost You may buy any one of the following models. No other models can be used. Models of Tablets (along with price details):- S. No Particulars Amount 1 Samsung Galaxy T561-9.6 Inch Rs. 15000 /- 2 Samsung Galaxy T116-7 Inch Rs. 9000/- 3 Lenovo A 7600 F - 10.1 Inch Rs. 13000/- 4 Lenovo Tab 2 A7-10F - 7 Inch Rs. 5000/- (ii) Keeping pace with technology, the school has introduced online assessment for students of Class I to X in Maths, Science and English and additionally Social Science for Class VI to X. This will not only enable students to get used to taking online tests, but will give feedback to teachers whether concepts have been made clear / understood by students or not. (iii) The school has made arrangements for students to make use of internet under supervision, by providing them a dedicated cyber cafe in the library and permitting them to bring their own laptops, which they can make use of as the campus is on Wi-Fi. The laptops are to be kept with respective housemasters / wardens and can be used by students under supervision. (iv) The school has a dedicated language lab so that students can pick up and improve their communication skills.

We have known for many years that we have been doing a significant job in this area and it is particularly satisfying to have this publicly recognized! I want to acknowledge the efforts of everyone who has contributed to the extraordinary effort! I am reminded of a comment made by a knowledgeable educationist while discussing Student Learning Outcomes at MS. He commented that having studied our programmes of learning and assessment and all the extra services that the School offers (e.g. Individual learning plans for students who are experiencing delays or who are academically advanced, the self / extra - study that offers students the opportunity to complete homework under supervision, the one - to - one - guidance for students who need to catch up on, or complete assignments and the Individual tutoring offered to students on a voluntary basis) he could see absolutely no reason (other than an individual student s poor work habits!) why any student at MS should not achieve their highest academic goals. As a new initiative few activities have been started, in addition to the existing ones like cooking classes, handicrafts, photography classes, art and drawing activities are learned. Now classes for classical dance has also started to cultivate cultural heritage among our students. Given the unstinted effort that our teachers put into these additional co-curricular programs, I am encouraged to focus your attention on the above noted comments once again as your children gear up for the new academic year. There is no doubt that The Mann School provides an excellent academic programme but, by itself, and without the commitment of each individual student, success will be limited. We need every student to own their responsibility for their learning, and this process can well begin in the quietness of your home, when you discuss these issues and help your children to set realistic goals for the year ahead. I appeal to you to ensure that you allocate some good, quality time to this process before your ward(s) return to the school in July. Kindly encourage your child to write out exactly what they intend to achieve, and keep these goals somewhere, where they are visible, and can be regularly referred to throughout the year. Kindly allow your child to set goals that are neither Too Ambitious nor Not Ambitious Enough. Unreachable goals can only lead to heartbreak and disillusionment in a child. Not Ambitious Enough Goals will merely set the child up to cruise, being too easy. Good goals ensure significant, incremental change throughout the year. The setting and achievement of meaningful goals is a lifelong habit that can only benefit your child in their future. The goal-setting process, that you begin at home, will be reinforced and supported during the Student Induction process which all students of primary and secondary participate in, during their first week back at school. During this time we provide them opportunities to establish relationships with their teachers and classmates while introducing them to the expectations and details of life at MS. All of these activities give them firm foundation upon which each child can base their goals and aspirations for the year.

Important document that you will need to refer to during the course of the year is The School Calendar which is available online on the school website: www.themannschool.com. We believe that it is critically important for your child s educational experience that they understand that a positive and healthy relationship exists between their parents and the School. This gives them a sense of security which is the real foundation for good learning! I look forward to seeing you at the School in the weeks to come and wish you the best of blessings in the year ahead. Parents are to ensure that the Fee/Dues in respect of your ward be deposited in the school timely as mentioned below, in order to avoid any fine/penalty. For Day Scholars: Quarterly fees must be deposited: By 10 th of April, 10 th July, 10 th October & 10 th January every year, in order to avoid any penalty, as per school rules. Co-operation from the parents for the above is solicited. With warm regards [Cdr. V K Banga] PRINCIPAL
