WICHITA FALLS ISD May, June, July 2014 ONE FAMILY-ONE TEAM IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR THE END OF SCHOOL AND SUMMER! Verification of Enrollment and Attendance (VOE) Form This form provides documentation to the Texas DPS when a student applies for an instruction permit and/or a license to operate a motor vehicle. Normally VOE Forms issued during the school year expire 30 days from issuance. However, VOE Forms issued the last 5 days of the school year (June 2nd June 6th, 2014) expire the first day of the following school year. If your student needs a VOE Form this summer please have them request and pick up the form between June 2nd and June 6th. The student, not the parent, must request the form from the Attendance Office. The request needs to be made by 2:30 P.M. for same day pick up. Lost Textbooks Parents, you should have received a letter if your student has a lost textbook(s). Please assist in settling his/her account ASAP to avoid your child being denied the opportunity to check books out in the new semester. See Mr. Braveboy in the Discipline Office. SAT/ACT Dates SAT/ACT dates are not out officially but if your child needs to take the first tests check the websites in August so you do not miss registration deadlines. SAT: collegeboard.org (first test will probably be Oct 11 and the registration deadline will be Sept 5 or 12) ACT: actstudent.org (first test will probably be Sept 13 and registration deadline will be Aug 22) Fee Waivers are available for students on Free/Reduced lunch list. Please email Mrs. Johnson at jbjohnson@wfisd.net. Dual Credit Classes Dual Credit classes are available! Your child can earn high school and college credits at the same time. Students must be juniors or seniors next year. Please contact Mrs. Johnson at jbjohnson@wfisd.net if interested. Freshmen Corral Freshmen Corral is tentatively set for Friday, August 22nd. There will be activities for incoming Rider Freshmen. Unofficial class schedules will be distributed along with information needed for having a great start to their first year of high school. Please watch the Rider Webpage for more information as this date approaches.

P A G E 2 P A R E N T N E W S B U L L E T I N Class Schedule Pick Up for 2014-2015 School Year Students can pick up their unofficial schedules before school starts at Rider: Seniors August 19 from 9-11 & 1-3 Juniors August 20 from 9-11 & 1-3 Sophomores August 21 from 9-11 & 1-3 Freshmen August 22 during Freshmen Corral June 2015 Educational Trip Parents and students are welcome to join Mrs. Lee on the June 2015 educational trip to Berlin, Prague, the Alps and Paris. Senior Pictures Parents of SENIORS (Senior class 2015), please make sure your student has their yearbook portrait taken at Lifetouch this summer. Appointments are easy to make in the summer and more difficult once school starts. Call 692-9691 to schedule your appointment after June 15. All yearbook portraits must be taken by Lifetouch. Free Summer SAT/ACT and Leadership Camp Your ASP College Advisor will be having a free Summer SAT/ACT and Leadership Camp this summer on June 9 th -12 th and June 16 th -19 th at Hirschi High School from 9am-12pm daily. We will also be having a College Fair and Symposium Day in Dallas on Wednesday, June 11 th in lieu of camp activities. Lunch and transportation to the event will be provided at no cost. Flyers for these events (as well as a permission slip for the College Fair) are available outside of the ASP Office in the Rider Technology Wing. If you would like to attend the College Fair and Symposium with your student, please inform Mr. Rios of this so that your meal can be planned for the event. Student permission slips for the College Fair are due by Tuesday, June 3 rd. Sikes Senter Mall A+ Program Thank you to all the students and parents who participated in the Sikes Senter Mall A+ Program. We raised over $8500 in receipts. Be sure to save your summer receipts from Sikes Senter Mall so we can get off to a great start next school year!! 2014 Cross Country Cross Country starts Monday, August 4th. Packets may be picked up at Rider. Students participating MUST have their physical before August 4th. Join the Rider Swim Team Any student interested in joining the swim team needs to contact coach Zahl at ozahl@wfisd.net. Practices will start August 4th at 7:00 A.M. at the Central Boys and Girls club.. Students must have a athletic physical to participate.

M AY, J U N E, J U L Y 2 0 1 4 P A G E 3 Summer STAAR Review and Re-Test Students who still need to pass any of the five End-of-Course exams (required for graduation) are expected to re-test during the summer. Testing will be July 7 July 11, according to the schedule below. Monday, July 7 English I (5 hour time limit for the test)* Tuesday, July 8 English II (5 hour time limit for the test)* Wednesday, July 9 Algebra I (4 hour time limit for the test)* Thursday, July 10 Biology (4 hour time limit for the test)* Friday, July 11 U. S. History (4 hour time limit for the test)* Testing will be held at each student s home campus. On testing days, students are expected to arrive at 8:00 A.M. There will be a Review Session before each exam. Dismissal time may vary, depending on the length of time it takes the students to complete the exam. Lunch will be provided. *Students receiving accommodations through Special Education or 504 will receive those accommodations. Travel Summer of 2015 Any students wanting to travel to Paris, Barcelona, Madrid the summer of 2015 need to see Mrs. Williams, or they may contact her at lmwilliams@wfisd.net.

P A G E 4 N E W S L E T T E R T I T L E W.O.W. 2014 Study Skills Summer Camp July 21-24 Students will receive 12 hours of exploring one s academic strengths and weaknesses and strategies to improve academic success. Curriculum includes lessons in time management, materials needed for classes, assessment of strengths and weaknesses and ideas for improvement, classification of materials and ideas, and a variety of study skills. The schedule is listed below: Location: Rider High School, 4611 Cypress Ave., Wichita Falls, TX Morning Session Monday-Thursday, July 21-24 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM Afternoon Session Monday-Thursday, July 21-24 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM *Sessions will be limited to 20 students in order to maintain an effective learning environment. Cost: $75 (due by Monday, July 7) Registrations will continue until the sessions are full. Due to limited capacity, students are encouraged to register early.
