Getting College Ready Checklist Research colleges and scholarships that might be a good fit. Visit colleges of interest for a tour or open house. Set goals for the school year. Maintain good grades & challenge yourself academically. Getting involved in clubs and other groups is a great way to identify interests and feel more engaged in school. Get ready to take PSAT/SAT/ACT. If you are an athlete planning to continue playing a sport in college, register with the NCAA Eligibility Center (www.ncaaclearinghouse.net). Find a job or internship, or participate in a camp or summer college program. Try to find a program that fits your career interests. Create a resume a record of accomplishments, activities and work experiences since you started high school. Set up a GA Futures account.
Other Useful Tips Love STEM? Talk to your counselor about classes at Fernbank. Interested in a technical field? Consider classes at Cross Keys Technical Center. Attend college and career fairs in the Atlanta Metro Area (they are offered throughout the year). Create a good rapport with teachers and your counselor. This will be important when asking for a recommendation. Be mindful of your social media accounts and school behavior. Social media activity and school discipline can impact future college acceptances and job opportunities.
