Overview The BBA in Professional Accountancy (PACC) Program of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), a program highly recognized by international professional and accreditation bodies, nurtures professional accountants and specialists in accounting-related areas. Graduates are equipped with the knowledge, skills and values which help them deal with the increasingly complex and inter-connected business world effectively so as to become future leaders in the accounting and business community. Curriculum Global Accounting (GA) Stream PACC Program offers more than just a specialization in accounting-related areas. There are other required courses that are not directly related to accounting, including areas in finance, management, marketing, business law and ethics. PACC Program not only nurtures students into experts in computing and analyzing quantitative business information, it also equips students with all the essential skills and knowledge in accounting and business. PE IT 2 units 1 unit Students are required to complete 123 units of courses, which include the major required courses in: General Education Financial Reporting Auditing Taxation Cost and Management Accounting Accounting Information System Business and Company Law 21 units PACC 67 units TOTAL 123 units Language Courses 15 units Free Electives For further information about the curriculum, please visit the program website. 17 units To cater for the growing demand in the business community for professionals with a global mindset who can play a leadership role, the GA stream is offered starting from 2013-14. Elite accounting students who aspire to acquire a global mindset as well as an understanding of international accounting practices and issues can apply for the GA stream after completing their first year of study. They will have internship opportunities provided by international accounting firms and gain international exposure through non-local training experience, with scholarships awarded to students with academic merit. In the past summers, students had taken short courses at the University of Oxford and Utrecht University. They also visited multinational corporations, professional accountancy bodies and international accounting firms in London and Amsterdam. GA stream students actively participate in various competitions and community services. Together with four PACC students, they swept away the tax debate championship and best presenter award for two years in a row since the Tax Debate Competition was first held by the Taxation Institute of Hong Kong in 2015. The CUHK Business School team which included a GA stream student seized the championship of Peak Time 2016, outperforming 18 finalist teams from top business schools around the world. Another team of GA stream students entered the World s Top 10 Final Presentation for the AAB s International Conference held in August 2016, among other finalist teams from Ivey Business School in Canada, Imperial College of London, University of Queensland and Singapore Management University. The GA stream graduates have received offers from diverse industries including the HKSAR Government, asset management company, investment bank, audit, tax, forensic services, advisory and risk assurance departments in international accounting firms. Business Analytics Entrepreneurship Minor Computer Science Finance Psychology Journalism and Communication PACC students have many options in taking minors to broaden their scope of studies. Almost 30% of PACC students study a minor. Modern Languages Global Tax and Governance (GTG) Stream In response to an increasing interest of our students to know more about tax and governance issues as well as the profession s desire to have more accounting graduates who are better versed in these areas, a new GTG stream is offered starting from 2016-17. Courses offered by the GTG stream include International Taxation, China Taxation, Taxes and Business Strategy, Corporate Governance, Corporate Insolvency and Restructuring, Securities Regulation and Chinese Legal Environment for Business. 03 04
Enrichment Activities Overseas Exchanges CUHK has more than 250 partner universities over the world for undergraduate exchange. About two-third of our PACC students participate in overseas exchange programs every year. Internships Many PACC students have internships with international accounting firms, the Treasury, the Inland Revenue Department, the Hospital Authority and financial institutions. Majority of our students have acquired internship experience before reaching their final year of study. Study Trips PACC Program organizes study trips with prestigious overseas universities regularly to widen students exposure. Students attend lectures, conduct company visits and tour around the city. 05 06
Other Activities PACC Program organizes a range of enrichment activities to enhance students professional knowledge and understanding of the industry. There are professional seminars, career talks, company visits and study trips to China throughout the year to help students explore career options and hone the soft skills required for their graduate careers. Students also participate in consulting projects with companies including local startups and NGOs. These activities also serve as excellent communication platforms for students to connect with the School and their schoolmates. Case Competitions PACC students have abundant opportunities in joining case competitions to apply their business knowledge, analytical and presentation skills. Participation in case competitions also allow students to expand their network and to learn from business professionals. Our students have achieved remarkable results in various local and international case competitions. Admission Details Career Prospect PACC Program opens doors to huge varieties of opportunities and leads to rewarding careers. Accounting is the business language, and paves the way to general management position. In Hong Kong, 38% of the CPAs work in leadership positions, including president, CEO, CFO, financial controller, partner and director; and 87% of listed companies have an HKICPA member serving in senior management or board director positions. 1 PACC graduates are well sought after by international accounting firms.
