LING3003 Tanka: Exploring the Language, History and Culture Dr. Cathryn Donohue Department of Linguistics, School of Humanities, Faculty of Arts Students would learn about all aspects of fieldwork for linguistics, including social expectations, ethical issues, interview preparation and linguistics elicitations. make four visits to the sites and people for interview. Submit assessment reports outlining issues of linguistics and social relevance, plus documentation of oral histories will contribute to the public. ARCH3041 Design on the Road to Burma: Experiential Learning in the Landscape Planning Ashley Scott KELLY & Dorothy TANG Division of Landscape Architecture The project is a region scale teaching and experiential learning in the Division of Landscape Architecture (DLA). Extending from the worked with infrastructural development along the Chao Phraya Watershed after the 2011 floods and the exploration of the industrial expansion and potential of abandoned shrimp ponds, the project continues eastward as Thai industry pushes into Myanmar. Heritage Revitalisation: Converting the Old Dairy Farm Senior Staff Quarters into a Living Museum Community Partner: Caritas Hong Kong Interdisciplinary and experiential learning opportunities Restore the historic site and buildings through preservation, strengthening and construction Investigate and collect historic artifacts, data and information Investigate the natural habitats & ecological system of the site Curate thematic guided tours and workshops on Old Dairy Farm s history and operation Construct a simple structure for dairy and bakery workshop Design and operate a dairy farm in a form of social enterprise Analyse and enhance the nutritional value of milk and its intake Research and produce exhibition materials in written, video and multimedia forms Document the whole revitalization process for publication Explore and design other cultural and educational activities at the site The project is a government endorsed revitalization scheme led by Caritas HK. The project aims to restore the 214 square metres historic site to its look in 1919 and turn it into a living museum by 2019.
Project Continuity & Development Experiential Learning Service Learning ARCH5406 Home Improvement of Subdivided Flats Community Partner: Caritas Hong Kong Dr. Du Juan, Department of Architecture, Faculty of Architecture Twenty five students will use their knowledge, skills and creativity as architects to define and enliven a hidden aspect of a contemporary city, subdivided flats in the aged building clusters of the Aberdeen district of HK. 10 subdivided flats with 30 residents will be chosen for students to investigate their needs for home improvements. Solutions developed from the project could be transferred to NGOs for larger scale implementation in the Southern District.
