Agreement on Dual Master Degree Program in Industrial and Systems Engineering between KAIST Department of Industrial & Systems Engineering and Technische Universität Berlin Gemeinsame Kommission Wirtschaftsingenieurwesen GKWi February 2010 1

1 Subject of the agreement and aims This agreement describes the academic and administrative conditions concerning the realization of the Dual Master Degree Program in Industrial and Systems Engineering. The program supports the exchange of students between KAIST, Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering (hereafter known as KAIST ) and TU Berlin, Gemeinsame Kommission Wirtschaftsingenieurwesen GKWi (hereafter known as TUB ). The aim is to enable students to receive Master degrees of both universities. Both universities will make all necessary technical and administrative arrangements to start the program in spring/summer 2011. 2 Academic conditions 2.1 This agreement applies to KAIST students who are enrolled in the Master Program Industrial and Systems Engineering, who have successfully finished the Bachelor degree in Industrial Engineering or an equivalent study program, and who are well-versed in the English language, as demonstrated by the TOEFL test (a minimum of 83 points in the TOEFL Internet-based Test (560 pbt, 83 ibt)) or an equivalent test. TUB students who are enrolled in the Master Program Industrial Engineering with a focus on Mechanical Engineering (Wirtschaftsingenieurwesen, Vertiefungsrichtung Maschinenbau), who have successfully finished the Bachelor degree in Industrial Engineering, and who are well-versed in the English language, as demonstrated by the TOEFL (a minimum of 83 points in the TOEFL Internet-based Test (560 pbt, 83 ibt)) or equivalent test. 2.2 Selection procedure Both parties guarantee that participants of the Dual Master Degree Master Program will be selected according to their academic, personal, and linguistic qualifications. The candidates are asked to submit all necessary documents requested by the host university. The home university proposes a list of selected students to the host university. The host university is entitled to inspect the list and to confirm the chosen students. In case of problems the partners will make consensual regulations via their International Offices. 2.3 Exchange contingent Up to three students are to be accepted by the host university per year. In case of more than three selected applicants, mutual regulations will be found. 2

2.4 Acknowledgement of student s achievements on entering the dualmaster degree program On the assumption of fundamental equivalence and based on mutual trust in the academic quality of the host university s curriculum it is agreed that KAIST acknowledges the qualification for entrance to TUB Masters Program. TUB acknowledges the qualification for entrance to KAIST Masters Program. 2.5 Curricular conditions The following paragraphs state the curricular conditions. 2.5.1 The standard period of study is four semesters. A standard period of two semesters is to be taken at the host university. 2.5.2 The students from KAIST and TUB are required to gather 18 Credit Points from KAIST and 60 ECTS from TUB. A maximum of 3 credits (KAIST) can be changed into ECTS and a maximum of 12 ECTS (TU Berlin) can be changed into credits (KAIST) to ensure short study times, provided that both the host and the home university agree to a student s request. The translation factor is 3.3 ECTS/Credit. 2.5.3 The required modules for the dual master degree program at the home and host institution are to be chosen by the students according to the module list in Appendix 2. 2.5.4 The attended courses/lectures at both universities must overlap only slightly. 2.5.5 The number of modules from each module group according to Appendix 2 must include - a minimum of 12 ECTS from the Systems Engineering Modules Group at TU Berlin, - a minimum of 3 credits from the Systems Engineering Modules Group at KAIST, - a minimum of 12 ECTS from the Operations Management Modules Group at TU Berlin, - a minimum of 3 credits from the Operations Management Modules Group at KAIST, - a minimum of 12 ECTS from the Elective Modules Group at TU Berlin, - a minimum of 3 credits from the Elective Modules Group at KAIST, - the Master Thesis which must be written in English. Each change of the curriculum and/or of the Appendix has to be agreed on by both universities in writing. 2.5.6 Students are required to prepare a Master Thesis at their home university in their final semester of the program. TUB home students will take 24 ECTS and submit their thesis to TUB. KAIST home students will take 9 credits and submit their thesis to KAIST. The host university will consider that the thesis prepared at the home university fulfills their thesis requirements, provided it is accepted at the home university. 3

2.5.7 Upon the approval of both dual degree coordinators from TUB and KAIST, a student may take a course different than those listed in Appendix 2 for fulfillment of the DD program requirements. 2.6 Examination regulations (Prüfungsordnung) KAIST students at TUB: During the studies at TUB, the examination regulations (Prüfungsordnung) of TUB are valid in the current version. TUB students at KAIST: During the studies at KAIST, the examination regulations of KAIST are valid in the current version. To be able to transfer the KAIST Credit Points respectively the TUB ECTS earned during the Master Program, both universities will hand out a transcript of records in English to the exchange students. The Transcript of Records is an official inventory of the courses taken, the achieved number of KAIST Credit Points respectively TUB ECTS, and national grades earned by the students throughout their stay at the host university. 2.7 Awarding the degrees After successful completion of the complete program at both universities, the students receive the Master Degrees of both universities, i.e. the M. Sc. of KAIST and the M. Sc. of TUB. 3. Financial arrangements Participants of the dual master degree program are responsible for their own travel and living expenses during the exchange, if there is no third party funding. The home as well as the host institution will, however, try to get financial support to defray all or part of those expenses. The host university will arrange for accommodations in a student dormitory, if wanted and possible. Students participating in this dual master degree program will pay their normal tuition and registration fees at their home universities. During the term of the agreement the host universities agree to waive all tuition fees for incoming students visiting under this agreement. 4. Validity and modification of the agreement This agreement is valid for three years and becomes effective on the date that it is signed by the official representatives of both universities. This agreement may be reviewed at any time and any modifications concerning the present agreement may be made only by mutual consent in writing between authorized representatives of the parties. If either university desires to terminate the agreement, it must inform the other in writing at least one year before. Otherwise the agreement will be automatically extended. 4
