NATIONAL UTILITY CONTRACTORS ASSOCIATION OF LAS VEGAS 2016 Scholarship Application Form NUCA Las Vegas is proud to announce, that as a result of members support for the scholarship fundraising events, up to $13,500.00 will be awarded in scholarships this year. Rules and Instructions WHO MAY APPLY Any student entering or currently attending an accredited two-year, four-year college/ university, or technical/vocational school and is an employee or child of a parent employed by a NUCA of Las Vegas member company in good standing at the time of the application deadline. Student employees, including part-time employees, or a student whose legal guardian is an employee of a NUCA of Las Vegas member company in good standing at the time of the application deadline are also eligible. Awards are to be determined by the Scholarship Selection Committee and approved by the Board of Directors. HOW TO APPLY The completed application and required supporting documentation must be submitted via email no later than May 15, 2016. Incomplete and improper applications will not be considered. NUCA Las Vegas staff will endeavor to advise applicants of incomplete applications, only if, in the staff s judgment, the incomplete information can reasonably be expected to be resolved and missing information received before the deadline. ADDITIONAL DOCUMENTATION REQUIRED The application will not be considered complete without an official transcript of high school grades and, if applicable, a current transcript from an accredited college/university or technical/ vocational school currently attended. In addition, a transcript of national tests (SAT, ACT, etc.) must be submitted. A signed letter of recommendation from a faculty member of the school currently being attended is also required. National test scores are not required from applicants planning to enter a two-year degree program or a technical/vocational program. It is recognized that not all schools are on the same schedule. Accordingly, transcripts current to the most recent complete grading period are acceptable. HOW APPLICATIONS ARE JUDGED Selections will be based on the overall worthiness and need of the applicants by a panel of judges chosen from NUCA of Las Vegas membership by the NUCA of Las Vegas Scholarship Committee. The judges will consider standardized test scores (SAT, ACT, etc.), community service and extra curricular activities, career goals, work experience, essay, and other information required on the application. Applications and transcripts will not be returned, and scoring will not be divulged. Judging decisions are final. Judges will decide impartially and without respect to the identity of any applicant. Judges will also select first and second alternates in the event that any announced winner is subsequently disqualified or declines the award prior to issuance of the award check in late summer. Alternates will not be announced. CONFIDENTIALITY OF APPLICATIONS Information on the applications will be retained in confidence and used for no purpose other than this competition. Identity of the applicants will not be revealed to the judges until after the judges complete their selections. Applications will be destroyed by NUCA of Las Vegas staff after they are no longer deemed necessary records. Applications and transcripts will not be returned. Please note that we ask permission to use winning applicant s essay in NUCA publications, presentations, and / or exhibits. Please sign the release where requested. If you are the winner, we will also request your photograph for use in these publications.
