RUSTENBURG SPORT Sport at Rustenburg is offered on and/or team, general and our aim is to offer a range of sporting activities, to suit all interests and abilities. We emphasise the importance of teamwork and enthusiasm for the game, displaying good sportsmanship and respect for other teammates and competitors. We derive pleasure from our victories, but realise that we also learn from our mistakes. Rustenburg also offers a collection of cultural and musical activities which encourage girls to develop new skills or reach out to the community, while having fun at the same time. An atmosphere of cooperation and sharing is actively encouraged. The program includes one compulsory Long Day of school (13:30 14:30) for Grade 1s on a Tuesday and Grade 2s on a Wednesday This allows the girls an opportunity to try all sports before having to choose a specific summer & winter sport in Grade 3. PROCEDURES TO TRIAL FOR A SUMMER OR WINTER TEAM SPORT FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS HOW DO YOU SIGN UP FOR A RGJS TEAM SPORT? Girls must write their full name (first name + surname) on the trial sheet under the correct sporting code and age group which is located on the sports notice board. Girls are notified via the intercom when trial sheets have been placed on the sports notice board. WHERE IS THE SPORTS NOTICE BOARD? It is located on the brick wall in the back of the foyer of the main hall and a few steps away from the tuckshop. HOW DO TRIALS WORK? Trial 1 Trial 2 All girls who sign up for a particular team sport will be required to attend trials. After trial 1, girls may or may not be asked to attend call back trials. Girls are notified via the intercom when the call back trial lists have been placed on the sports notice board. It is their responsibility to listen to the intercom and check the board. Call Back Trials the girls who have been invited must attend Note it is up to the discretion of the coaches whether additional trials need to be held in any particular sport/age group. IMPORTANT A girl may try out for more than 1 summer or 1 winter sport but MUST make sure she is able to fulfil her commitment to the team for the duration of the season (attend weekly practice days, match days & festivals). IF trial dates clash for example: tennis & water polo please notify Miss J Forcioli, so a special arrangement can be made and that the relevant selectors are notified. A girl MAY NOT sign up for a team sport, be selected for the team and then withdraw. This is denying another girl the opportunity to make a team sport which results in disappointment. WHAT HAPPENS IF I AM NOT ASKED TO ATTEND CALL BACK TRIALS? A girl may sign up for under that specific sporting code example: general tennis or general hockey. WHEN DO YOU SIGN UP FOR GENERAL SPORT & CULTURAL ACTIVITIES? After team sports trials have taken place and teams have been selected, the GENERAL SPORTS SHEETS & CULTURAL ACTIVITY SHEETS will be placed on the sports notice board. Girls must write their full names (first name & surname). Girls are notified via the intercom when these sign-up sheets have been placed on the sports notice board. HOW DO I SIGN UP FOR A TEAM SPORT OR OTHER ACTIVITY IF I JOIN RGJS DURING Term 1, 2, 3 or 4? Please e-mail Miss C Davison (candav@myrgjs.org.za) with your daughter s details: Previous school team sport or non-team sport involvement, the age group and the sport/activity your daughter would like to try out for at Rustenburg. A girl must play sport in the correct age group irrespective of which grade she is in. SPORTS UNIFORMS
