PERFORMING ARTS CONGRATULATIONS to the Corona del Sol Chamber Orchestra who will be performing at the Arizona Music Educators Association Conference on February 6, 2015. They are one of only four schools in the state to have the honor to perform at this conference. PARENTS come join the Corona del Sol Parent Steel Band. No experience needed. TheatreWorks presents: Still Life With Iris by Steven Dietz on Friday, January 30 and Saturday, January 31, 2015 at 7:00 PM in the CdS Auditorium. Still Life With Iris is a fantasy, adventure, and drama about a little girl discovering her way home. It is a beautiful story for children of all ages! Tickets are $5 at the door. CLUB NEWS We are very excited to announce one of our CdS DECA Teams has qualified for the DECA International Career Development Conference ( ICDC ) in Orlando, FL. The team finished 5th in the Western Region in the DECA Stock Market Game and will represent Arizona in the event at ICDC at the end of April. CdS Seniors on the team are: Kyle Coggins, Chloe Carstens, and Sophie Fogelson. Their teams finished 5th in the region out of approximately 1,600 teams. The top 25 teams in each region qualified for ICDC. Vamshi Avvari and Wade Young took First place overall in Section in Buying and Merchandising Team Event. Joey Maynard took First place overall in Section Quick Serve Restaurant Management Event. Sean Daly and Jake Weber Role-Play Medalist in Marketing Communications Team Event. Juli Edwards and Kyle Hausmann Role-Play Medalist in Hospitality & Tourism Team Event. Brooke Schofield and Alexa Mooney Role-Play Medalist in Travel & Tourism Team Event. Colin Miller Role-Play Medalist Food Marketing Services Event. Rex Peterson Role-play Medalist in Principles of Marketing. Camryn Palmer Role-Play Medalist Principles of Marketing. Comprehensive Test Medalists, Haleigh Bemis, Brent Einstein, Kyle Hausmann, Joey Maynard, & Rex Peterson. Speech and debate went to the Southwest Championship at ASU on January 9-11, 2015, and each of our novice Lincoln Douglas debaters won multiple rounds. Freshman Daniel Farr and David Zhou completed in their first tournament in Novice Policy and made it to the Octo-finals, coming away with a small trophy. Sophomores Amanda Johnson and Jarrett Salecki made it to the semifinals in Duo Interpretation and earned a trophy for that.

Corona del Sol Dance Program Information Placement in Dance Classes at Corona del Sol + Four levels of dance offered: Intermediate, Advanced, and Company + Beginning Dancers do not have to audition. + Intermediate, Advanced and Company dancers must participate in the placement audition in February before being accepted into the dance program for the following school year. ******Audition Prep Master Class Workshop: Saturday January, 31st 9am-12pm Cost $30 Dance Placement Auditions 2015-2016 Workshops- February 4th, 5th & 6th 4:00-6:30pm Audition- Saturday, February 7th 8am-3pm After participating in the auditions, students will be notified of their class placement 2 weeks following the audition. Results will be posted in the girl s locker room window at this time. Students will then register for the class they have been placed in. About the Program Dance can be taken instead of P.E. for the first year. After the second year of dance, the credit will count as an elective. Students in the Advanced and Company classes may also count dance as a Fine Arts credit after the first year of dance. There are three dance concerts each year: The Winter Dance Show- Intermediate, Advanced, and Company The Sr. Solo Showcase Performance The Spring Dance Show-Intermediate, Advanced, and Company All students participating in the dance shows are asked to fundraise/donate $150 each in the Fall semester in order to help cover the costs of putting together the productions. There are many fundraising opportunities provided such as a Gold Canyon Candle sale, Entertainment Book sale, Dance Clinics and Gift Cards. Those students who do not wish to fundraise can also take advantage of the school tax credit for their $150 requirement. Most rehearsals will take place in the class structure, however a few morning and after school rehearsals may be necessary, especially right before performances.
