Que faites nous les journées pédagogiques? Our staff at James Nisbet is committed to being lifelong learners. We have had 2 school closures this fall for professional development. On Monday, Oct 16, our Divisional In-service Day, our staff joined all other Seven Oaks School Division employees to learn about improving mental health of our students. Dr. Stan Kutcher shared his ideas on how to use daily stress as a way to develop resiliency. On Friday, October 21st, teachers from across the province participated in the annual Manitoba Teacher s Society Professional Development Day. Our school staff participated in a variety of sessions that support our work around our school s 5 priorities: P.E.A.C.E, Cultural Perspectives, Literacy, Numeracy, and Sustainability. Our staff participated in sessions on: Computer Coding/Le codage The Seven Teachings/Les sept enseignements sacrés Smudging/Le smudge Promoting Francophone Culture/Promouvoir la francophonie Developing Resiliency in Students/La resilience chez les enfants Literacy in the Gym/La litérattie en education physique Ecological Education/L éduction écologique Self Regulation/L auto-régulation Indigenous Perspectives Les perspectives autochtones On Friday, November 3, our staff will spend the day learning about Restitution and Self-regulation. Phys Ed News/En éducation physique November will be a busy and exciting month at James Nisbet School. We will be completing our fitness assessments and setting fitness goals for the second term. As well, we have been learning about Team Handball and preparing for the upcoming divisional handball tournament. It will be held on Saturday, December 2nd for all students in grades 4 & 5. Our after school tennis club will take a break for the month of November and we will resume again in December. Permission slips for handball will be sent home to those who have been attending lunch hour practices. Good luck kids! Bonne chance! Library News/Dans la bibliothèque We are having a fantastic year so far. The library at École James Nisbet is always busy so far we have checked out over 7000 books! My name is Mrs. Krupa and my fellow librarian is Mrs. Dhindsa we are both new to École James Nisbet this year and we are having the best time getting to know all the wonderful readers we have at our school. Book Fair News! The Scholastic Book Fair will be held in the evening of Thursday, November 23 rd and during the morning of Friday, November 24 th to coincide with this year s End of Term Celebrations. Classes will be invited to preview Book Fair items during the day on Thursday. Purchasing will be permitted during Thursday evening and Friday morning only. The book fair will end at lunchtime on Friday. Mrs. Krupa and Mrs. Dhindsa will be doing some book shopping in the near future, so be sure to keep your eyes open for new books in the library. Mrs. Krupa and Mrs. Dhindsa Music News/Nouvelles en musique We are pleased to announce that all James Nisbet students will be performing in Winter Concerts again this year. Students from Kindergarten to Grade 2 and in Grade 1/2/3 multiage classes will be performing in one of two evening concerts hosted in the James Nisbet large gym on Tuesday, December 19. These concerts will be as follows: 6:00pm Concert: (students arrive in their classroom at 5:45pm) -Mr Greco s classes -Mme Cole, Mme Bordeaux, Mme Falvo s classes -Mrs Dyck, Mrs Perrett s/ms Chua s classes ------------------ 7:00pm Concert: (students arrive in their classroom at 6:45pm) -Mme Girouard-Bogaert s classes -Mme Reyes, Mme Dewit, Mme Tretiak s classes Students in Grade 3 to 5 will be performing in daytime concerts on Friday, December 22 at the Garden City Mall in the food court. Parent Connect Parent Connect is a helpful tool for parents to access their child s information. View report card marks and comments Review attendance (real time to current day) Schedule Parent/Teacher Conference times View and edit demographics (address, guardian and emergency contact information) View the school calendar View your child s current bus route Send messages to teachers It is more important than ever, that families have a working e-mail provided to the school that they check regularly. Memos and communication from your schools may come in the form of an e-mail to families instead of paper memos. We do understand that some families do not have computer access. We kindly ask that you make a special request for paper copies of report cards and newsletters with your child s teacher. Vehicles parked illegally during school pick up and drop off times create serious safety hazards for children and cause traffic delays. It s especially important to pay attention to and abide by all signage and rules of the road around schools.
