The Center for Leadership Development is located in the Student Experience Center, and is part of the department of Student Leadership and Involvement (SLI). General Responsibilities Leadership and Organization Development (these hours are both scheduled and flexible program hours) Develop and facilitate training, workshops, educational materials and other resources on leadership and organizational development topics Consult with students and provide assistance in addressing leadership and organizational needs Coordinate resources to help students identify and access leadership development opportunities Event Planning (these hours are both scheduled and flexible program planning hours) Plan and implement outreach events, information fairs and recognition for student leaders and groups Plan and implement leadership development events Participate in implementation and support of student events sponsored by Student Leadership and Involvement Campus Involvement Assist new and returning students interested in increasing their involvement and leadership development Facilitate involvement and leadership development information to classes, tour groups, etc. Represent Student Leadership and Involvement through participation in Connect Week events and campus information fairs (Beaver Open House, Spring Visits, etc.) Support campus-wide involvement and leadership development initiatives Represent SLI on campus-wide committees such as MLK Jr. Celebration Planning, MU Board of Directors, etc. Information, Referral and Administrative Tasks Maintain data to provide updated information pertaining to campus-wide student events and organizations Provide information and referrals regarding involvement, leadership and personal development opportunities Perform administrative tasks for Center for Leadership Development as needed (Over)
Required Qualifications: Strong interpersonal communication and relationship-building skills Demonstrated ability in effective public speaking skills Ability to shift one s approach when working with a variety of organizations/leaders representing diverse cultures, communication styles, histories, and team structures Demonstrated knowledge of and sensitivity to traditionally underrepresented students Ability to organize work, manage time, and follow through on tasks in a self-directed environment Awareness/attentiveness of group dynamics and team development Currently enrolled student at Oregon State University for at least 6 academic credits In good academic standing for the term prior to selection and during entire period of employment Must maintain at least a cumulative GPA of 2.0 (undergraduates) or 3.0 (graduates) Preferred Qualifications: Prior involvement experience in leadership activities, student organizations, event planning and/or outreach activities Comfortable speaking in front of large groups Ability to find answers to problems creatively and resourcefully Experience with educating, training, and/or mentoring others Demonstrated ability to be flexible, adaptable, and provide feedback in program implementation and evolution Demonstrated knowledge of standard PC programs, specifically Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint), desktop publishing, and social media. Experience with advertising, marketing, or outreach for events, projects or organizations Demonstrated knowledge of/experience with graphic design, photography, video, social media, website management, or multimedia Commitments - PLC staff members are: hired for the academic year with the expectation of employment during fall, winter & spring terms; required to participate in all staff training and professional development sessions, including staff development retreats; expected to work an average of 8-10 hours each week with some scheduled office hours and some flexible program hours, as well as work evening and weekend hours as required to implement effective programming and outreach; required to attend weekly staff meetings, individual supervisory meetings, and all call events ; required to fully participate in SLI Student Staff Fall Training, September 8-23, 2015 (approximately 65-80 paid hours of training).
