Halloween Parade Last Monday was Halloween, and our ELC and Elementary teachers were confronted with lots of small (and not so small!) ghosts, witches and other ghoulishly creepy characters. Take a look for yourself! Public Domain, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=1326898 Mr Henri Tilstra History Coming from the Netherlands where he taught at international and local Dutch schools, Mr Tilstra joined ISB in 2007. Since then, he has taught Geography, TOK and History from Grades 6 to 12. In addition, he held the post of ISB University Guidance Counsellor for several years. Amongst other subjects, he studied History and Archaeology at the University of Amsterdam and the University of Freiburg im Breisgau. Following his studies, he enjoyed working in an archaeological museum in Amsterdam for several years. Later, he worked at and led numerous excavations before making a career switch to teaching. University and Career Guidance Counselling (Grades 9-12) our students here at ISB. Tuition is largely free or with a minimal cost to EU applicants, international fees are slightly higher. To browse through the many Englishtaught courses and to find out more about studying in the Netherlands visit: https://www.studyfinder.nl/ Airbus Presentation Last Friday, our students in Grade 10, 11 and 12 had the wonderful opportunity to hear a presentation from Airbus - a global aeronautical engineering organisation whose second largest base is right here in Bremen. The students heard about the many different types of aircraft that Airbus design and manufacture, as well as study and career opportunities. Airbus offer both apprenticeships and Duales Studium (gaining a degree alongside practical placements) to students looking to continue their studies after graduating from ISB. Students heard about the many different areas in which they could work and about the day-to-day routine for the Airbus team. Airbus also encourages students to get involved with summer internship programmes from Grade 10 onwards. Many students have already come forward declaring an interest in studying with Airbus, so if you or your child would like more information take a look at their website below, the attached flyer or send me an email at mgarrett@isbremen.de http://www.airbusgroup.com/int/en/people-careers/ apprentices-and-pupils/in-germany/schuler/locationbremen-airbus.html Studying in the Netherlands An increasing number students across Europe are choosing to continue their studies at universities in the Netherlands. There, they fall into two main categories: research universities and universities of applied sciences. Degrees from either type of institution are equally recognised for different merits and many now offer courses taught in English which may appeal to UCAS Applications The deadline for UK Medicine, Veterinary Science, Dentistry, Law and Oxbridge has now passed! Students are still able to register with UCAS for other UK courses starting in September 2017. To do this, students will be required to provide a school 'buzzword'. This can be found on the board outside Mrs Garrett s office and she will be on hand to aid students with the registration process over the next few weeks. The general deadline for applications is 15 January 2017. https://www.ucas.com/ FAIRS, TESTS & MORE November 16 November 17 November 25-26 December 3 (Saturday) International Students Day (Register to take part in a virtual open day for universities across the US!
