Achievements as Director, Institute of Management Studies, H PU After taking over as Director, Institute of Management Studies in March 2001, the following have been accomplished: 1. Entrance Test to Management Programmes in the University has been fully computerized and simplified. 2. Effectiveness in the functioning of the Institute has been enhanced by way of developing work culture and teamwork. Prepared proposal for setting up a Centre of Excellence in Himalayan Studies under the UGC s Scheme for Identifying Universities with Potential for Excellence in collaboration with the teachers of the University. After two levels of screening, the UGC identified Himachal Pradesh University among other twelve universities out of more than 125 applicants for establishing Centres of Excellence. UGC released Rs.5 crores as seed money for the establishment of the Centre. 2. After appointment as the first Director of the Centre ( in Pro-Vice-Chancellor grade), within nine months, a number of initiatives were taken namely, visualization of Center s mission, objectives and vision; development of modern infrastructure for facilitating higher order research; conduct of workshops, seminars and discussion groups, development of library, Web-site, networking etc. 3. Institute of Integrated Himalayan Studies was established as an autonomous department with its own Board of Control, Academic Board and Advisory Board. 4. Published introductory brochure, which was circulated among the universities and institutes situated in Himalayan region. This brochure included details about its mission, objectives, focal areas, and details of various programmes. 5. In an urge to make the work environment of the institute conducive for academic and administrative work, the task of furnishing and equipping the institute s building was taken up on priority basis. Now the institute has equipment, furniture and furnishing items of superior quality. The workstations for the fellows were designed got executed. 6. In its venture to computerize its administrative, financial and academic functions, the Institute installed 20 computers with Local Area Network and also with Internet facility. 7. In order to decide about the scope of the Institute and to identify the thematic areas, two workshops were organized in the month of June and July 2002. These workshops were attended by senior academics of the University. After detailed discussions during these workshops, specific focal areas were identified. Under each focal area, broader themes were also enumerated. 8. A documentary (multi-media presentation) on the mission, objectives, focal areas, programmes, long and short term plans, identified tasks, guidelines for researchers, etc. was prepared. 19 P a g e

Workshops on Himalayan Culture (August 16 & 17, 2002), Environmental Concerns in the Himalayan Region ( Sept. 18, 2002), Economic and Political Aspects of Himalayan region (17 th Oct. 2002) were organised. These workshops were attended by scholars from different parts of the country. 10. Project proposals relating to various aspects of Himalayas were awarded. 11. The Institute from the very beginning started the process of building up a computerized library. A library programme SOUL was procured from INFLIBNET, Ahmedabad. For sharing its knowledge base with the world outside and also to have close links with the institutions and people engaged in similar type of activities, the Institute launched its own website. This contains detailed information about the activities and plans of the Institute. The website is available under the domain name www.himalayanstudies.net. 12. The process of bringing out four edited volumes was initiated, namely: - a. Mountain Deities in the Himalayas: Transactional and Cultural Networks through the Ages b. Representing the Himalaya: Culture and Society c. Environment in the Himalayas d. Quality of life in Himalayan Region 14. With a purpose of developing database on Himalaya the task of documenting the books, journals, project report, theses and dissertations relating to various aspects of Himalayas was started. More than 3000 bibliographic entries of books in addition to more than 1200 research papers, dissertations and research reports were collected. 15. It was planned to provide annotated bibliography under different classifications as per the requirements of the researchers both in the form of hard copy and through electronic medium. Specially designed software was developed with the help of Regional Computer Centre, Shimla so as to feed the bibliographic entries in a systematic manner. The software provides a number of facilities to the user to access the stored material through a number of sort keys as per his/her requirement. The Institute is going to make this knowledge base available through Internet also on payment basis 16. The Institute has proceeded in a well-planned manner with the development of sound and functional infrastructure appropriate for pursuing academic and research activities. It has prepared itself for thorough and rigorous academic activities in the near future. 17. A detailed action plan of the Institute for carrying out different activities during the forthcoming five years was prepared and sent to the UGC. 18. 160 Projects were completed and 25 books have been published in IIHS in a period of one and half years. It is a record of research conducted on Himalaya in any year. 28. Contribution to the General Development of Himachal Pradeh University, Shimla, India 1. Chairman of the Committee constituted to rationalize financial rules, 2007-08. 20 P a g e

2. Member Secretary, Academic and Administrative Audit Committee of the University, necessary report have been prepared and sent to the UGC, 1999-2006. 3. A proposal was prepared and presented along with the Vice-Chancellor before the UGC for setting up of Centre of Excellence in Integrated Himalayan Studies in the University. 4. Established three institutions in the University including Academic Staff College, IIHS and Pre Examination and Coaching Centre in the University, 5. A proposal was prepared and sent to National Council of Rural Institutes for establishing Centre for Rural Educational Technology and Management in the University. The Council has sanctioned Rs. 50 lacs for this purpose. 6. Prepared Self Study Report for assessment and accreditation of the University by National Assessment and Accreditation Council, Bangalore and managed the visit of NAAC Peer Team to University. 7. As Nodal Officer of UGC Visiting Team presented University s case for financing during tenth plan. A detailed report was prepared and sent to UGC. An elaborated visit of UGC Team was arranged to various departments of the University. 8. Acted as Chairman of Strategic Planning and Decision Support Group, helped the University in preparing 10 th Plan Documents submitted to the UGC and State Government. 9. Worked as Nodal Officer of Internal Quality Assurance Cell of H P University constituted as per the directives of the NAAC, Bangalore with the purpose of the implementing the quality assurance interventions. 10. Represented university at different platforms such as UGC, NAAC, AICTE and a couple of Institutions which enhanced its image. 29.As Pro Vice Chancellor / Coordinator CUHP 1. Became the member of the Promoters Team when joined the Central University in May 2010 and thereafter appointed on deputation as Special Officer(Development) and Dean, School of Management. 2. Working with the visionary Vice Chancellor, utilised the freedom of implementing physical and academic architecture of the University within a very short span of time. 3. Visualized, planned and put action plans in practice by starting 15 Post Graduate level and 16 Research Degree level Programmes of Study with innovative and qualitative superior approach to develop integrated personality of students., 4. As Chairman of Technical Infrastructure Committee with members from IIM Shillong, NIT and JamiaMiliaIslamia, engaged in the stupendous task of developing ERP, complete solution to automate university operations. 5. Involved in developing academic infrastructure for the School of Business and Management Study in particular and other Schools of Study in general. 21 P a g e
