Snow Valley Basketball Schools Westmont College, Santa Barbara, CA The Snow Valley Basketball Schools are a great camp program for all ages. As the longest running basketball school of its kind, you'll receive more instruction in the fundame ntals and more chances to improve your skills than anywhe re else in the world. The rigorous camp format includes fundame ntal instruction, clinics and team games that will leave each camper with renewed energy and enthusiasm. Highlights Include Daily Instruction, lectures, and demonstrations on fundamentals Intense drills aimed at improving individual skill and knowledge of the game Report Card and discussion of skills with a personal evaluation Experienced college, and professional coaches selected for their ability to tea ch the game Daily games against players of similar abilities - games until 10:00 at night! The Snow Valley Basketball Camp is held at Westmont College located in the hills above Santa Barbara, CA. It is approximately 100 miles northwest of Los Angeles, and within driving distance of many Northern California cities. The Santa Barbara Airport is closest in proximity to Westmont College, but the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) would be a better airport for international arrivals. The safe and secure campus, is an ideal place for camp. Set above Santa Barbara, the 112 acre-campus offers plenty of natural beauty, and superb sports and residential facilities. Campers stay on campus in the newly renovated Van Kampen Hall. The large, sunny courtyard of Van Kampe n Hall is surrounded by palm trees, and law ns. The courtyard and second-floor balcony provide popular places for interaction among campers. The bright, airy rooms are the large measuring about 12-by-16 feet. Eighteen four-room suites open to the central courtyard. All the rooms are triple occupancy and house about 200 campers. Van Kampen is located on the lower part of campus near the dining commons and near Murchison Gymnasium where the Snow Valley basketball camp is held. The dining facility offers many food options available daily vegetarian, special diets ok. Campers are supervised 24 hours and assigned staff counselors in the dorms.
Program Details and Camp Daily Schedule Snow Valley Basketball programs feature staff and players w hose own high school and college coaches were important in their basketball development, so they know how to help you achieve your basketball goals. Snow Valley treats each player as an individual...a Personal Player Report Card will be kept on your camper throughout the week, and given to them at the conclusion of camp. This report card will note particular strengths and weaknesses, and offer suggestions for individual improvement once they have left Snow Valley. Each se ason we emphasize the following fundamentals: Playing under control Individual Defense - stance, movement, open court vs. dribble Individual Offense - moving without the ball, pass receiving, initial moves with the ball Individual Position - classes each day Shooting Fundamentals - including the jump shot Rebounding Skills - ball side and help side Extended Defense - help and recover, closing out, defend post and flash post Extended Offense - passing, receiving, perimeter, inside play Transition - defensive recovery Open Court Work - guards and forwards Cut Throat - 4 on 4 ins truction Daily game competition against other players of similar age and ability levels will be scheduled. Eve ry participant will play a minimum of one half of every game. In addition to games, a minimum of nineteen clinics concerning individual and team fundamentals will be presented during the week long session. Drills are a big part of each clinic. We design our program to have an eight to one player to coach ratio and guarantee your son or daughter will receive an excellent week of BASKETBALL INVOLVEMENT. The dow ntow n Santa Barbara ELS language program starts on June 29 and the Malibu Youth Language Program starts on June 29 or July 6. (The Nike Sport camp will immediately follow on the Sunday after the end of the language program.) Campers who choose to attend the ELS Language program will have 15 lessons (each lesson is 50 minutes) per week. All
language classes are in the morning. Language assessment is done on the first Monday of their language session. Students have free time in the afternoon to explore the local area of Santa Barbara with their new friends/or host families ( SB downtow n Center) or enjoy pre-planne d afternoon activities each day at the Malibu Youth Camp at Pepperdine. ELS Language Check in Snow Valley Basketball Camp Check-in Sunday June 29 (Downtown Santa Barbara Center) Sunday July 20 or July 27 June 29 or July 6 (Malibu Youth Camp at Pepperdine) Checkout 4:00PM on last day. Weekend Program An Offensive Skills program will be run over the week -end, in between the two basketball sessions. This clinic starts at noon on Friday July 25 th. Campers w ho attend both weekly sessions are encouraged to participate in this offensive weekend. Focus will be on passing, catching, footw ork, shooting, dribbling, 3-on-3, 4-on-4, and cut-throat. This program will be led by California Community College Hall of Famer Charlie Sands. Coach Sands will guide you through his offensive skills progression. This program will be invaluable tool in helping you become a better offensive player. Limit 100 campers. Campers from Session I can stay for the weekend program. There will be an extra night stay over fee of $100 to cover Thursday night. All campe rs will be supervised.
