Regional Network Operator Groups (NOGs) ISOC continues to support the regional NOG activities that foster technical capacity development in 4 regions; SANOG XV The Southern Asia Region: Biannual event, the 2010 events will be in Bangladesh and Butan respectively APRICOT 2010 Asia Pacific Region An annual event, 2010 will be in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia Feb 23 rd Mar 3 rd AfNOG 11 Africa region An annual event now in its 11year. The 2010 will be in Kigali, Rwanda from May 23 rd Jun 4 th LACNOG Latin America and Caribbean Region ISOC is facilitating the establishment of a LACNOG forum in 2010
AfNOG Localization Program Aimed at localizing the AfNOG track 0 Unix Administration course. Done in partnership with AFNOG and NSRC 5 localization activities were conducted in 2009 Ghana, Congo Brazzaville, DRC, Ethiopia and Rwanda 8 Localization activities are planned for 2010 4 new countries and 4 repeats Overall objective is to develop the local technical community and establish national NOGs
African IXP Development Initiative 4 complementary programs based on the stage and requirements of each country: Technical Training and Capacity Building New IXP Implementations Value Adding Services Regional IXP Forums and Communities of Practice Project collaboration is key to success Several Financial Sponsors and Implementation Partners are assisting Additional support sought to grow and strengthen efforts
ISOC Fellowship Programs IETF Fellowship Provides fellowship to the IETF meetings and mentorship to deserving engineers since 2006 Next application round (for July and Nov 2010 IETF meetings) starts from 15 th March to 16 th April 2010. http://www.isoc.org/educpillar/fellowship/index.shtml Fellows from over 5 African countries have been to event IGF Ambassador Program Provides fellowship to the annual IGF meeting to deserving individuals with interest in Internet policy development Next application round will open 15 th Mar to 12 th April 2010. http://www.isoc.org/pubpolpillar/igfambassadors/ Jon Postel Network Operators Scholarship ISOC provides support to this program which is managed by NANOG and ARIN Provides fellowship to NANOG event to deserving engineers from developing regions of the world. http://www.nanog.org/scholarships/postel.php
Next Generation Leaders Program (NGL) Launched in Oct 2009 during the ITU Telecom World event in Geneva at the Youth forum Luncheon. Aimed at cultivating next generation of Internet leaders who will address the critical technology, policy and education challenges that lie ahead. The start of the program will be an e-learning component in partnership with DiploFoundation. cctld Activities The cctld program is done in collaboration with ICANN and NSRC. The partners have jointly developed a cctld Registry Operations Course (ROC) curriculum. The course is 3 stage progressive curriculum namely Introduction, Advanced and Security Registry Operations Course. The Course are organized jointly in collaboration with the regional cctld organizations There are planned events in APTLD, AfTLD and LACTLD regions in 2010.
Community Grants Program Is a project aimed at assisting ISOC Chapters and members to ; Serve the chapters community Advance ISOCs mission and vision Nature collaborative work amongst members/chapters and the community Further knowledge sharing in the global internet community Encourage chapters sustainability Next round of application funding will be from 1 st March and closes on 26 th March 2010.
