What is Dual Enrollment? Dual Enrollment is taking college courses while enrolled as a high school student and receiving credit for those courses at the college and high school simultaneously. Where can I take classes? Miami Dade College Florida International University When can I take classes? Summer B term
What are the benefits? Enhances College Readiness. Allows students to engage in the College Experience. Allows students to begin working towards their College Degree earlier. Allows a student to boost Grade Point Average. Saves money towards a College Degree
Minimum Requirements How do I know if I am eligible? You must have and maintain an un-weighted GPA of at least a 3.0. You must pass the P.E.R.T. exam. You need to earn a 3.0 or higher in the DE classes. You must be a rising Sophomore, Junior or Senior. CGHS will NOT APPROVE any ENGLISH course or CORE SOCIAL STUDIES course (i.e. American History, Government, Economics). The exception for Core Social Studies courses are students in the IB Program who would not otherwise have opportunity to take the course in their regular schedule.

TESTING POLICY MDC STUDENTS TAKING PERT AT MDC: Eligible students have a total of two (2) PERT attempts while they are in 9 th and 10 th grades and two (2) attempts while they are in 11 th and 12 th grades. MDC can retrieve PERT scores from the State Database for those students taking the PERT at their homeschool.

Concordant Passing Scores SAT & ACT SAT: 500 for all sections (Math, Reading & Writing) ACT: 21 for all sections (English, Reading & Math ** For registration in courses at the high school campuses: SAT, act OR pert scores MUST be included in the class roster submitted to FIU.
Dual Enrollment Procedures 1. Print Dual Enrollment Form from MDC or FIU. 2. Complete forms with ONLY Summer B courses: MUST include Course Number and Reference Number. ** DO NOT SELECT an ENGLISH or SOCIAL STUDIES CORE course (No American History, American Government or Economics courses) (Only IB students qualify to take these courses via Dual Enrollment). 3. If the form requires a parent signature, make sure that parent signs.
Dual Enrollment Procedures -continued- 4. During lunch time Monday thru Wednesday ONLY, students will drop of COMPLETED registration form at the Student Service counter and place the form in a RED FOLDER with YOUR COUNSELOR S name on it. Please Note: IB Students will place forms in RED FOLDER in Ms. Lezcano s (A-L) or Ms. Driver s (M-Z) door bin. 5. Counselors will review forms, check that students have met criteria and obtain necessary signatures and place the forms in FOLDER with the GREEN COVER for pick up. 6. If the form is DENIED, review the counselor s specific notes. 7. If the form is APPROVED, proceed to the selected institution to register.
Step 2 After you register for the course at the institution, print out your summer schedule and place in the RED FOLDER once again. Step 3 Dual Enrollment Procedures -continued- Upon confirming your summer DE schedule at MDC or FIU the counselor will place your book voucher in the FOLDER with the GREEN COVER for pick up.
IMPORTANT! Any class that you take as a Dual Enrollment course will automatically count towards your COLLEGE GPA. Note: Dual Enrollment grades will become part of your permanent high school transcript and Florida International University s or Miami Dade College transcript (these are official transcripts and should be included in any college application). If you receive a C in a Dual Enrollment course, you will no longer be eligible to take any other Dual Enrollment course for the remainder of your high school career.
