Pennies for Pasta: Did you know that every 3 minutes in the United States one person is diagnosed with a form of blood cancer? This amounts to around 171,550 people who are newly battling leukemia, lymphoma or myeloma just in 2016, which amounts to about 10.2 percent of all cancer diagnoses. 1.2 million people in the US are living with the disease or in remission. Did you also know that every 9 minutes someone in the US dies from a blood cancer? The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) is working on preventing these statistics and Key Club is looking for you to help support them! The survival rate has quadrupled since 1960 due to research and technology. LLS has donated over $50 million in 2016 alone to blood cancer research. They also make donations to improve the lives of those afflicted. Later today, you will see a box placed in your Homebase collecting your spare change to donate to LLS. Pennies for Pasta is sponsored by Olive Garden and if we raise enough money as a school, the Homebase who raises the most money will receive a catered Olive Garden pasta party! The contest will run for 2 weeks. Adventure Awaits in 2018! There are still spots available for the Italy trip in the Summer of 2018.
