Mission Statement The Asian Faculty and Staff Association (AFSA) seeks to advance the scholastic and civic interests of its members by providing opportunities to: work collaboratively across disciplines to plan and conduct research; promote partnerships with community-based organizations for research and evaluation activities; serve as consultant to the UWM community on academic; sociocultural; and faculty, staff and student recruitment and retention issues; encourage and reward the scholastic achievement and community participation of UWM Asian students; and network and socialize.

The AFSA Award

AFSA Award The Asian Faculty and Staff Association (AFSA) Award Program was established in spring 2004. It recognizes outstanding Asian and Asian American students at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee for their academic excellence, as well as their commitment and contribution to the Asian community in the greater Milwaukee area. The Program offers two $500 awards to currently enrolled Asian and Asian American students. Both graduate and undergraduate students may apply. The recipients will be selected in Spring Semester for the following academic year.

Application Criteria A student can apply or be nominated for the award. The applicant/ nominee must: Be a student of Asian origin. Be currently enrolled as a full time student at UWM. Demonstrate a 3.25 or higher GPA for two consecutive years at the undergraduate level or 3.5 or higher GPA for one year at the graduate level. Demonstrate a commitment to the Asian community. Demonstrate personal achievement through participation in community service, extracurricular and other activities.

Application Process The applicant/nominee must submit: A cover letter. Two letters of recommendation, one preferrably from a UWM faculty, and the other from a community leader. (To be sent directly to committee chair at email address below.) An essay that addresses your qualifications and reasons why you should receive the award. A UW-Milwaukee transcript.
