SPORTS SPECIALIST HIGH SKILLS MAJOR (SHSM) The Lorne Park Secondary School SHSM program in Sports provides students in grades 11 and 12 the unique opportunity to specialize their courses to suit their interests and/or aspirations in the Sports sector. Students can choose an apprenticeship, college, university or workplace pathway that focuses on all or some of the following: competitive and recreational sports, sports management, sports media and broadcasting, health sciences and fitness and training. In order to complete a SHSM in Sports, students 1. Complete a bundle of 9 specific courses (see chart below); 2. Complete Sector Certifications and/or training programs; i.e. First Aid, CPR, AED, WHMIS, Sports taping, personal training, safe boating, functional training, group dynamics, refereeing, coaching, dance leadership 3. Obtain experiential learning and career exploration activities within the sector i.e. visit sports-related facilities to learn about business, promotion, marketing, sales, hiring, etc. 4. Document the industry Essential Skills and work habits using the Ontario Skills Passport; 5.
