This will involve 3 senior LA inspectors being in school for two days. They will visit lessons, speak with staff, students and governors. They will also inspect school documentation and student work. Further details will be communicated next week. Science Technician: Part-time Vacancy We have an advert for the above post, later in this news sheet. If you are interested there are also details on our website. Visit from the BBC s Jonty Bloom I have had confirmation from Jonty Bloom (BBC Business Correspondent) that he is able to visit us on Monday 16 November. Jonty works mainly on the radio at present and will be giving a presentation based on branding to our KS4 Business Studies students in the hall on that morning. We are delighted that he could fit us into his hectic schedule and we will include an article about this event in a future news sheet. We are also looking forward to hearing what he has to say. New Pastoral System The new pastoral system, with all year groups now having a non-teaching Year Leader, is embedding in well. The key personnel within this system are:- Miss E Smith: Year 10 & 11 Leader Miss Fenner: Year 8 & 9 Leader Miss Hubbard: Year 7 Leader and Year 6 into 7 Transition Leader Mrs Milnes: Pastoral Support Assistant (Years 7-11). Although these leaders are non-teaching they do have hectic schedules so if you require a meeting with one of them, please contact the school first to arrange an appointment. Please remember that the first point of contact for a pastoral issue is usually the form tutor or an academic issue. Thank you. Have a lovely weekend. Mr McCabe

(Continued from page 1) YEAR 11 IN CLASS TESTING Year 11 students will undertake In Class Testing during week commencing 19 October. These will take the form of formal testing in all subject areas and will take place during normal lesson time. Mr Mountain COLLEGE APPLICATIONS The deadline for QMC and BCoT applications for Aldworth School is Saturday 31 October. I have already run three after school sessions to help students with this and I will run one more after school session on Wednesday 21 October from 3.00pm to 4.00pm. I am also available at first breaks Tuesdays-Fridays. QMC interviews will start in school after the half term break so students need to be prompt submitting their applications or their tutors will be unable to complete references on time. Students are welcome to come and see me if they have any concerns. Mrs Corio CANTEEN There will be a Halloween menu being served in the canteen on Friday 23 October, please see the attached menu. There will also be toffee apples and chocolate apples being sold for 1.00 each. Tea, coffee and hot chocolate is available at breakfast, 50p per cup, as well as normal full breakfast all week. Mrs Billings - Canteen SCHOLASTIC TEEN BOOK CLUB Please see the attached letter regarding the Scholastic Teen Book Club. Thank you for your continued support. Mrs Paterson Librarian SKIING APRIL 2016 We still have a number of places available on the 2016 Ski Trip to Schladming Austria during the first week of the Easter holidays. It is available to all Year 8, 9, 10 and 11 students. The cost is 770. Although this may seem a lot it is a very comprehensive package. It includes all transport. Four hours a day ski instruction over six days. All meals and entertainment, ski passes and the use of ski equipment (skies/poles/helmets/boots) If your child is interested, a letter with full details can be obtained from Mrs Corio or is also available on the school website in section Parents/Letters Home. We are happy to take payment in instalments up until the end of February. Feel free to contact me at the school if you have any queries. Mrs Corio ROCKLEY WATER SPORTS TRIP 2015 We took 23 GCSE students to Rockley Water Sports Centre over the weekend to learn new skills and experiences. The group were fantastic and a credit to Aldworth School, their behaviour was impeccable and they all enjoyed themselves. They started with a whole day of sailing on the Saturday whereby they learnt to rig a boat, sail, turn and best of all capsize - some more than others! The second day consisted of windsurfing, kayaking, SUP and canoeing - they all managed these well and also enjoyed playing games on the water against one another. In the evenings there was entertainment such as a quiz/egg drop and archery. Well done to all students involved and the staff for taking them. Mr Minton, Miss Watson and Mr Dowell YEAR 10 AND 11 NETBALL Last Thursday the teams played Cranbourne. The Year 10 team beat them 16-3 with player s player Deborah Hagos. It was an exciting game to watch as they dominated each half with some fantastic shooting by Lauren Instone and Chante Pellet. Good ball play by Jade Clare, Amber Clare, Jasmine Kinchin and Victoria Butler- Clack. Chloe Keeping did well to prevent the ball going in the net at the opposite end. The Year 11 game was close but they lost narrowly by 2 goals - again an intense game with good play from Ava Kerwick, Molly Catling-Allen, Olivia Aston, Jennifer Leister and Grace Scaife. Thank you to Lucy Havard and Addie Burns for filling in at the last minute. Miss Watson (Continued on page 3)

(Continued from page 2) YEAR 7 GIRLS RUGBY On Tuesday Grace Nothnagel, Mea Fleming, Bethany Yule and Lucy McFee played in the Basingstoke Girls Rugby Festival - they learnt lots of new skills for the first half and then played matches against other schools. They managed to win all their games and have the opportunity to now attend a U13 training session on Sundays. Well done to the girls. Miss Watson
