8th Grade Science Mrs. McNerney s 8 th Grade A day students were chosen to screen National Geographic Documentary Films Science Fair. The video follows nine high school students from around the globe on their journey to compete at the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF). SCIENCE FAIR FAST FACTS High school science fairs date back to 1942, when William Emerson Ritter and Edward W. Scripps created The Science Talent Search. The first American National Science Fair was won by 18-year-old Alan J. Fletcher for his display on the laws of motion. Science fairs became increasingly popular in the 1950s and 60s. American leaders saw science as a way to both confront some of the greatest global challenges and progress as a society. ISEF is the world s largest international pre-college science competition. About 1,700 students from more than 78 countries compete every year for $4 million in prizes. Winners will receive a copy of the book, The Dot with a thank you for ALL they do from INK! and Beaver Toyota. Visit the INK! Website for more information: https://ink-stjohns.org/ Building Security Parents: In a continuing effort to provide safety and security to our students and staff we ask that you complete a School Access Form if you plan to enter a facility in the St. Johns County School District. The link for the School Access Form and related information can be found at: https:// www.stjohns.k12.fl.us/volunteer/. This includes if you would like to meet with a guidance counselor, teacher, or volunteer for special activities such as the book fair, field trips, school dances or other activities. Any person going beyond the front office area of a school must have a completed school access form, and present a valid driver s license or state identification card when signing into a school. To check your status, contact the school which you wish to enter two weeks after completion of the school access form. It is suggested that the form be completed right away, as it can take two to six weeks to process. Once school access has been granted, a person signs into the school as a volunteer, and chooses the activity that best describes what he/she will be doing in the school. Driver s license and state identification card are required upon each sign in. Front Office Memo Parents: We are unable to accept items such as homework, textbooks, projects, and PE clothes after 8:15 am in the front office. This policy is in place to minimize the interruptions to instructional time. We encourage students to be prepared for school each day by bringing what is needed for the day. Of course, we will always accept lunches, lunch money, medicine, and eyeglasses. Thank you for your cooperation. PTO Mixed Bags Design Fundraiser 40% of all sales go directly to FCMS PTO!
