NEWSLETTER 5 th February 2019 Dear Parents and Carers, Thank you for your support over the last week in dealing with the challenging weather conditions. A special thank you to Mr Alexander who came in with his tractor to help clear the playground, and to Holy Ridiculous who helped clear the pathways. We never take the decision lightly to close the school and there are many factors that need consideration including the knock-on effect of other schools closing; ability of staff to get to school; safety of site; likelihood of further snow at the end of the day etc. School Council visit to Houses of Parliament After taking the train up into London, the School Council enjoyed a brilliant tour around the Houses of Parliament on the day after the Brexit vote! Although we missed seeing the PM, they went into the House of Lords, observed the House of Commons in action from the viewing gallery and saw the Great Hall. They then took part in a workshop, learning about the value of individual choice and freedom. Our MP then came and joined us and answered some excellent questions about the life of an MP (and whether schools were going to receive more funding!). Later in the day, we were lucky enough to see inside Number 10 Downing Street (as others entered), and toured around some of the main sites of London including Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abby and Trafalgar Square. Photos are now available on the school gallery. Girls Cricket at Odiham Cricket Club Odiham Cricket Club are looking to increase the number of local girls involved in cricket and are now offering free taster sessions for all girls in Y3+. Training takes place from 6.30 7.30pm on Friday nights, no equipment is necessary and they can simply wear their own sportswear. A soft ball is used at this age! Spare Football Boots We are keen to start creating a collection of unwanted football boots so that any child who might want to participate in a sports event, can do so without needing new equipment. If you have any, or might have some in the next few month, please remember us and the office will be delighted to receive them! Mr May

All welcome. On Thursday 7th March we will be celebrating World Book Day in school. The main focus of the day is sharing a story, therefore we will be asking children to bring in their favourite book to share with a friend in class. To make this day extra special we will be asking the children to dress up as their favourite book character from their chosen book. We will also be asking the staff to dress up and to share their favourite books with the children too. Thank you for ongoing support. Book People Book Fair 7 th 13 th March After the success of the previous book fair in November, where the school raised 150 to spend on books for book corners and our library, we will be hosting another book fair to celebrate world book day. The fair is due to take place after school from the 7th March, until the 12th March. We hope you will be able to drop in. SCHOOL NEWS Snow alert If the school needs to close due to adverse weather condition, parents need to visit this website for confirmation: http://www.hants.gov.uk/education/schoolclosures/ IMPORTANT - Online School Payments/Cashless Thank you to all those who are now paying on line. If you would like assistance with setting up an online account please contact the Office. The Office is now cashless and we will only accept online payments or cheques at the school office. Deployment notification letters If you or a member of your family is due to be deployed, it is really important the school can plan to support your child at this time, including the time leading up to it and on return. The RAF Welfare Centre on the base now provide deployment packs to each family and in there is a letter which can you send to the school, informing us to how long the deployment will last. We received our first one of these last week and they are really helpful in ensuring everyone in school is informed. Thank You. AND FINALLY Please regularly check the Dates section of the newsletter and the website calendar as this is being added to every fortnight.

LOCAL NEWS Hart Male Voice Choir Youth Singing Competition The competition is for singers, both male and female, in three age categories: 10-12, 13-15 and 16-18 years of age. The independent adjudication panel will be led by Haydn James, a conductor and arranger with many years experience in the world of music, including thirty years as Musical Director of the London Welsh Male Voice Choir. Entry to the competition will be free of charge. The Audition The auditions (which are the competition) will be held over the weekend of 23 rd and 24 th March 2019 in The Cross Barn, Odiham RG29 1JX. Singers are asked to provide their own accompanist if possible but please let me know if this presents a problem. Singers are asked to provide their music by Friday 22 nd February 2019. This is to enable to adjudicators to prepare for the auditions. The audition will be given in front of an audience made up members of HMVC and their partners for the most part. I have no doubt they will be an appreciative and supportive audience. After the audition We will send the adjudicators comments and a certificate of participation to every singer.
