Building Goals Goals #1: Guiding students toward becoming good and productive members of our community - becoming the best people they can be! Goals #2: Increasing student achievement and ensuring that all students meet the Indiana College and Career Readiness Standards.

Benefits of Attending Kesling Intermediate School Gradual transition from Elementary School to Middle School and eventually La Porte High School. Social and emotional learning (SEL) needs of students will be met through assignment to individual teacher in 5th grade, and teams in 6th grade. Cluster and teaming concept will allow all staff to have a collective ownership of the success of a group of students and will allow students to connect with an adult mentor. SEL met through Guiding all Kids programming and Physical Education, Health, and Wellness. Expanded extracurricular opportunities in academics and athletics. Safety...Full Time School Resource Officer

Benefits of Attending Kesling Intermediate School, Cont. Individual academic ability needs of students are met through flexible grouping of students. Expanded Elective Courses...all students in grades 5 and 6 explore all electives to make informed choices at the middle level. Allow students to explore music options in grade 5. Allow students to choose performing music in grade 6 (Band, Choir or Orchestra) and allow students to meet each day. Guaranteed and Viable Curriculum for all LPCSC students. Allows the opportunity for students to meet the Indiana College and Career Ready Standards and be better informed for a career pathway at LPHS.

Intermediate School Day 7:40 A.M. - 2:35 P.M. Students enter at 7:32 A.M. Breakfast begins at 7:10 A.M. Student drop-off begins at 7:10 A.M.

General 5th Grade Student Information Students are assigned to one teacher, grouped in teams of two and clustered in groups of four to allow one main teacher to really connect with a small group of students. A flexible grouping model will be used during academic block time to meet the individual needs of students in the core subject areas. Remediation and enrichment will also occur during the core academic block. All core academic courses will be conducted on the second floor of the current Kesling building.

General 6th Grade Student Information Students are assigned to a team of five teachers who teach a core subject area (Math, Reading, Language Arts, Social Studies and Science) A flexible grouping model will be used to meet the individual Needs of students. On most days students will move from class to class. Students are not required to take a music class.

6th Grade Enrichment & Interventions Students not in music classes (band, orchestra, or choir) will participate in enrichment and/or intervention. Interventions will support students by providing them with review and remediation. Enrichment will give students opportunities to learn about things not otherwise covered during the school day.

Parent Involvement We want all parents/guardians to actively participate in all Kesling Intermediate School Activities. Join the Grades 5-8 Kesling Campus PTA! We will be seeking individuals to volunteer as office holders or chairpersons of the different PTA committees. Meetings are held August through May at 3:45 P.M. in the Kesling Library. Please plan to join and volunteer to enhance the learning environment at the Kesling Campus! Other involvement opportunities You do not need to belong to PTA to get involved in your child s school. We want to build a partnership to help all students excel! Representative after the meeting for volunteers.
