JANUARY 24, 2018 In reading these reason and reflecting on Saint John the Baptist Elementary s WCEA Improving Student Learning document, I was struck by the progress the school has made with #5 We use technology effectively to enhance education. In 2011-2012 one of the school's significant goals was to increase students access to technology. Over the last six years, the school has purchased, used Title I funds from Canyons School District and been able to use money from the ALSAM Foundation for ipads, SMART Boards, document cameras and Chromebooks, thereby connecting with students of all learning styles. The theme for Catholic Schools Week is Let Kindness Bless the Trail We Ride, and the specifics are included in this newsletter. Thank you in advance to everyone who registered for Parent & Grandparent Day the best day of the school year! We received RSVPs from nearly 800 guests, thus please be patient as the parking lots will be filled. During Catholic Schools Week (on Tuesday, January 30 and Wednesday, January 31) Saint John the Baptist Catholic Schools will be holding a Social Media Giving Blitz - #SJB Gives with the goal of 100% parent participation. Parents who give between January 30-31 (along with those who gave during the Fall Ask) will receive the following: Any gift up to $75: Your family will receive 3 Free Dress Coupons A gift over $75-$249: Your family will receive 5 Free Dress Coupons A gift of $250 or more: Your family will receive 8 Free Dress Coupons and a SJB cinch sack Watch your social media accounts for more information and thank you in advance for supporting Saint John the Baptist Catholic Schools. In its commitment to the safety of all faculty, staff and students, the Skaggs Catholic Center s Safety Committee completed a needs assessment with Bedrock Security. Beginning Friday, January 26, there will be armed security at various events and gatherings, both during and after the school. As of next Wednesday, January 31, there will be armed security at Saint John the Baptist Elementary s weekly Mass. Thank you to everyone who signed up for Parent/Student/Teacher Conferences. The SignUp Genius will be open through next Wednesday, January 31. In Christ, Nikki Ward, Principal

JANUARY 24, 2018 For Families with High School Students: YOU: Life, Love, and Theology of the Body YOU is a study program produced by Ascension Press, the same publisher that brings to our Parish; Chosen: A journey toward Confirmation and Altaration: The mystery of the Mass Revealed. The world has changed. The modern presentation of personhood has challenges that didn t exist in the past. Today, teens are given conflicting messages on a daily basis, and an approach based simply in rules to be followed is not enough. They need to know that not only is each teen unique, unrepeatable gift of God, but so also is their sexuality, and all aspects of their lives. You: Life, Love and Theology of the Body is an exciting and dynamic program. Starting with St. John Paul II s revolutionary Theology of the Body; it addresses many issues teens face. It is being offered here at St. John the Baptist Parish to High School aged teens. This program gives teens the answers and the tools they need to successfully and safely navigate through life. MANY FAMILIES STILL HAVE NOT UPDATED THEIR STUDENT S EMERGENCY CONTACTS It is important that that ALL families update the Emergency Contacts/ Authorized Pickups for your student(s). This information was not imported from PowerSchool to RenWeb. Please list at least 2 individuals OTHER THAN parents/guardians to be called if the parents/guardians cannot be reached. Parents please do not add yourselves. as an Emergency Contact. Parents are ALWAYS the first to be called if there is an emergency. We are also offering separate sessions for parents and all adults to become familiar with this programming. Since we know that faith formation occurs every hour of everyday, parents and the whole adult community need to accompany our young on their journeys. We are strongly encouraging especially parents of teens to participate. A Parent information and registration event will take place on Sunday January 7 @ 12:15pm at St. John the Baptist Parish in Conference rm A. Classes will begin on January 28, 2018. You can view a sample lesson, parent video and workbook sample at this website by scrolling down to the end of the page: https://ascensionpress.com/shop/t/category/studyprograms/teen-chastity/you Is Your Student Going to be Absent?
