E-Safety Talk PC Jane Commins I was delighted to welcome so many parents to the e-safety talk on Monday evening. 71 children out of 223 on role were represented that evening and from the feedback I have received so far all that attended found it both useful but deeply shocking and worrying. By sheer coincidence YouTube for kids was in the news for posting videos of very popular characters such as Peppa Pig that depicted horrific scenes that would frighten children. At the very end of the session some great discussions were had and a lot of questions posed. However, due to time constraints we only just got going! I am aware that following this evening some parents have started to consider more deeply their own personal use of social media as well as the school s. Currently, the school has a website and twitter account to promote and celebrate the work of the school. This is what the majority of schools have. The PTA and the Egerton Schools Foundation do have a Facebook account but not the school. Following on from the talk given this week I have put in place the following actions: Karen Staniland-Platt will be carrying out a review of the school s approach to communication and use of social media PC Jane Commins is very happy to return to Egerton to lead a workshop based session where parents can bring along their devices, ask for advice, share great apps as well as experiences. This will take place on Thursday 4 th May at 7pm. As a consequence of this session it would be great if a parents support network could be started. Please let us know any specific areas you would welcome covering via the school office. In the Autumn term some Egerton children will be involved in being trained by the police as e-safety ambassadors. They will then be able to lead assemblies and get involved in e-safety sessions across the school. The school website has a wealth of information to support parents as well as links to the very best websites regarding e-safety P R O J E C T U P D A T E - C H E S H I R E E A S T P R E S S R E L E A S E As part of Cheshire East Council s review of the capital programme it has been agreed, between Knutsford Multi- Academy Trust, Egerton Primary School and the council, that the Kingfield project be evaluated to ensure that it still meets the corporate objectives of the council. The review is now being undertaken in partnership with the school and is being led by the Executive Director of Place, Frank Jordan. The review includes: Examining whether the proposals align with the school place planning strategy for the Knutsford area Assessing whether there is a business case to expand the scope of the project to include leisure and/or health facilities Understanding what the likely costs and possible funding streams would be for the project Fully understanding the statutory approvals that are required to take any proposed project forward Once this stage of work is complete the school and council will provide an update on the project. This is anticipated to be by summer 2017.

School Book Fair We have not had a travelling book Fair at Egerton for some years as their commission was gradually reducing year on year. However, the PTA looked into this recently and booked Scholastic Book Fair to be delivered to school this week. There is nothing more exciting, whether you are a child or an adult, to hold a brand new book and begin to explore it! This was certainly the case this week as sales rocketed! The total sales were a massive: 741.75! This means that the school gains 50% of this in vouchers to purchase books a grand total of 370.88! Real books are so precious and it is important to continue to encourage our children to be immersed in them this was seen at first hand when the books gifted by our children were given to the children in Egerton in Kenya last year. Squeals of delight could be heard across the school and chatter soon began to spread about going on a bear hunt or a character called Harry Potter or Horrid Henry! Thank you so much to the PTA volunteers for running the book fair this week an experience that will certainly be repeated in the future! Blue Peter! Tim Benson, once a pupil of Egerton, is now a producer with CBBC. He called me when I was at Pensarn last week and asked if Year 5 would like to witness an amazing science experiment that was to be performed by the Blue Peter presenters across Salford Quays. My answer was a very excited yes!! A Fond Farewell Miss Owen will be leaving us today to join another school in Crewe to further her career. She has made an exceptional contribution to Egerton during her time with us and we wish her well in this new venture. Mrs Clifford will be teaching Year 1 for the summer term. Miss Garvey was appointed this week to teach in Year 1 in September. She is an exceptional teacher and completed her final teaching practice with Mrs Eyres earlier this year. What is also very special is that Grace was an Egerton pupil and now she is an Egerton teacher. She will be spending a great deal of time in school throughout the summer term. The staff and Governors would like to wish all families a very happy Easter. We all deserve a restful break. School Spider App Important information Thank you to all parents who have already downloaded the app. There are 63 devices not logged in so they would only get the general messages, please log in with the details which were emailed to you to get messages specific to your child, if you require a log in, please email the school. If you have not yet downloaded the app, simply go into your App store/google play and download School Spider which is free of charge, once downloaded you can choose Egerton Primary School from the menu, log in, that s it! Parking This issue seems to be increasing. Cars are now parking on pavements and very close to the entrance to school or neighbours drives. This makes it difficult for children and families to safely use the pavement. Parents must not use the school car park at any time. Nut Free School We do have a number of children at Egerton who have nut allergies. Therefore, we aim to be a nut free school. Although this cannot be absolutely guaranteed please avoid any foods with nuts and also sweets for birthday treats. Thank you for support.

Knutsford Schools Summer Ball Summer Ball tickets are now on sale, menu and drinks pre order lists have been distributed by email, and paper copies can be collected from School Office. Tables can be 10 or 12 in size. If you are unable to fill a whole table, don't worry, your school committee member can help you by combining year groups etc, the most important thing is you come and support the cause and enjoy a great night out! If you have other questions please ask your school Ball committee member, Clare Dale (Alice's mum, reception) or Helen Boardman (Claudia's mum Yr2) We would like to have your forms, names, numbers etc in by after Easter so happy organising! Feel free to call/text 07972 874219 Clare Dale if you have any other questions. PTA news The book fair this week made a fantastic 741 so that equates to 370 for the school to spend on books and teaching resources. A brilliant effort from all involved and we will hopefully run another one next year. Thank you to all helpers and all customers! Well done to Ethan in Year 4 for winning the Easter Egg in the raffle! We hope that today s after school cake sale will also be a great fundraiser for the PTA and the school. Thank you to everybody who donated cakes/biscuits. Further details of our next fundraising event the Comedy Night on Friday 12 th May will be out after the holiday. We hope that as many of you as possible are sorting your tables of 10-12 and buying tickets for the Knutsford Primary Schools ball on Friday 16 th June 2017; please see your class rep or Clare Dale (Alice s mum Reception class). Thank you for all your support this term. Have a lovely Easter break!
