a-g Subject Requirements Applicants must complete a specific set of 15 college preparatory courses to be eligible for admission to the California State University and the University of California. 11 of the 15 UC required college preparatory ( a-g courses) completed by the end of 11 th grade. Each course needs to be completed with a grade of C or better. THE a-g SUBJECT REQUIREMENTS a. Social Science Two Years One year of US History or US History and American Government, and one year of social science. b. English Four Years Composition and literature designated as college preparatory. c. Mathematics Three Years (Four Years Recommended) Algebra 1/Integrated Math 1, Geometry, Algebra II, and Advanced math. Courses taken in 7 th and 8 th grades may be considered. d. Laboratory Science Two Years At least one biological laboratory science and one physical laboratory science. e. Language Other Than English Two Years in the same language - College prep language courses taken in 7 th and 8 th grade may be included. f. Visual and Performing Arts One Year Art, dance, theater/drama, music. g. College-Preparatory Electives One Year Any additional courses (not previously listed) that are included in the UC a g list. What Colleges Look For? Excellent grades, avoid C or lower. Maintain a 3.0 or HIGHER! EVERY YEAR (including Senior Year) Go beyond minimum A- G courses Take MATH ALL 4 YEARS!! Be a Well-Rounded Student Activities and Community Service. Take the PSAT on Saturday, October 15th (grades 9 11) (See Website) SAT or ACT (with/without Essay), AND SAT Subject Tests (if needed-certain majors)

Advanced Placement AP and Honors Courses AP classes are RIGOROUS college level courses taught at the high school. AP Tests in May (must pay for in advance) Scores of 3, 4, 5 may waive college level courses Students should have at least a 3.5 GPA Mandatory Summer Assignments Attend the AP meeting/honors meeting before school ends (listen to announcements) or contact the AP instructor. Also check summer website or handbook.
