Principal s Message Escape to Everywhere Last Friday, our playground was turned into a sea of book characters for the annual Book Parade. Escape to Everywhere was the theme for 2017 and it certainly proved to be a hit with all the teachers and students. Thank you to our parents for your support of this event and creating many amazing costumes. Thank you to Miss Berne for coordinating this great community event. Battle of the Primary Schools Eisteddfod We have some very talented dancers at Ermington Public School. Last week, the Year 1, Year 2 and 3-6 dance groups competed at the Battle of the Primary Schools Eisteddfod at Marsden High School. There were schools competing from all over Sydney and the calibre of dancers was exceptionally high. The Year 2 Dance Group and the 3-6 Dance Group both placed 2 nd in their respective categories. An amazing achievement! Well done to Miss Day, Mrs Clemesha, Mrs Harrison and Miss Workman and to the parents for cheering the teams on and supporting these creative arts ventures. Swim School Success Yesterday, the students involved in the swim school program commenced their lessons at Granville Pool. They had an amazing time and we look forward to hearing about their progress over the next two weeks. Thank you to Miss Day who coordinated the program and to the teachers attending each day. It is a highly valuable program for our students. NAPLAN Online NSW schools will participate in the NAPLAN Online School Readiness Test from 14 August to 22 September. There is a lot of information for schools, students and parents on the NAPLAN Online transition website. The school readiness test is a practice run' for schools to assess their technology as we prepare to transition to NAPLAN Online. It provides an opportunity for schools to become familiar with the NAPLAN Online assessment platform but is not an assessment of student ability. PDHPE Gymnastics Term 4 In Term 4, the students in K-6 will be involved in the Moving Bodies gymnastics program. The students are fortunate to have highly experienced and qualified gymnastics teachers delivering lessons as part of our PDHPE program. The cost is $44.00 and was included in your school invoice sent home in Term 1. Outstanding invoices were sent home yesterday from the office. As we need to confirm final payment and student numbers, it would be appreciated if these could be finalised by Thursday 7 th September. P&C Pyjama Party Disco Permission notes have been sent home with students about the upcoming P&C Pyjama Party Disco on Friday 15 th September. This is an exciting community event, organised by our wonderful parent volunteers from the P&C. We hope your child is able to join the festivities. P&C Father s Day Breakfast Thank you to our wonderful parent volunteers who have coordinated the event. We hope to see you all at the Father s Day Breakfast on Friday at 7:00am in the K-2 COLA. Mrs Scuglia R/Principal 2

Stage News Kindergarten Kindergarten had a wonderful time at the Book Parade last Friday. Everyone looked great in their costumes. There are still a few students who have not yet returned their blue student work sample folder; please ensure they are returned by the end of the week. Parent helpers are needed for Kindergarten sport on Friday 9:00-10:00am. The Kindergarten excursion will take place on Thursday 14th September at Sydney Aquarium and Wildlife Zoo, Darling Harbour. If you are paying by cash, please send the money in the envelope provided and place in the letterbox outside the front office. This week s news is free choice. The sight words are their, from and eat. The sounds are st and sw. Stage 1 Fabulous effort to all students who dressed up for the Book Parade last week. Your costumes were fantastic. Swim school started today. We have been tested and put into our groups. We can't wait to see how much we have improved. Today, we watched the book performer. It was great! We're looking forward to an excellent week ahead. Stage 2 The Book Week parade was a huge success, so many wonderful costumes and props from a wide range of books. The students had a brilliant day. The Stage 2 teachers enjoyed dressing up as students. 3/4G are enjoying spending time in our school vegetable garden. If you have any seedlings or seeds we could plant during our gardening sessions, please send these to school with your child. Last week Constable Crystal came and spoke about cyber bulling with Stage 2. The talk was informative and reminded students about appropriate use of social media and to be mindful of dangers when using the internet. Swim school began this week, so please ensure all items are labelled and to pack a plastic bag for wet swimmers. Summer PSSA resumes this week. Stage 3 The Book Parade was a fantastic event. It was great to see Stage 3 students show off their creative side with their interesting costumes. Library News Thank you to everyone who joined in our Book Week Parade. What a fantastic event and I was so impressed with the effort that many students and teachers (and parents) went to with the amazing costumes. It is such a lovely way to celebrate reading and books. Remember to keep on reading and get some inspiration for next year. Also, if you bought the book 'The World's Worst Children 2' during the Book Fair and your book is falling apart, please return it to Miss Berne in the library. There was a fault in the production of some of these books and Scholastic has advised me to return the faulty books to be replaced with new copies. The Premier's Reading Challenge has now closed. I have noticed that there are a few students who are close to finishing the challenge, with just a few books to go. If this is you, you're welcome to come to the library at lunch and read some of the junior picture or senior picture books to get you up to the 30 required books. Also, please let me know if you need your challenge list validated and I'll make sure that I mark it off. For Kindergarten to Year 2 students, I will be transferring all of the books read during class and library time across. If you have any questions about the challenge, please come and see me in the library. - Miss Berne Athletics Success Last Tuesday 22 nd August, Ermington Public competed at the 2017 Zone Athletics Carnival. Chess News Congratulations to the Ermington A Chess team who won their Zone Final against Eastwood Public School earlier this term. The team comprising of Sebastian, Patrick, Yu Tong and Daniel advanced to the Regional Semi Finals and were pooled against a range of teams across Sydney as well as the Central Coast. Ermington A travelled to Neutral Bay Public School last week to play two games each in their Regional Semi-Finals. All the boys competed very well and showed great skill to compete at this high level. Unfortunately, the team was beaten on the day. However, showed great respect to their oppositions and represented Ermington Public School extremely well. Well done to these four boys and their great achievement as well as the Ermington B Chess Team for a wonderful season of Chess. Thank you to Mr Lawless for training and transporting the students. Senior Choir Ryde School Spectacular Next week on Tuesday 5th September is our second rehearsal at the Ryde Civic Centre. It is important that all students involved attend school practises which include Tuesday mornings 8:00am and Thursday second half lunch. A note will go home this week outlining further details required for our rehearsals and the performance. Thank you to those students who have been learning all of the songs at home.
