Examination Review 2012 Statistics prior to appeals and remarks Highlights this year include: At GCSE 1 in 5 of all students achieved 8 or more A* or A Grades, our highest ever, emphasising our commitment to academic excellence. Students achieved the second highest ever Capped (best 8) Point score. 58% of all GCSE Grades were either an A*, A or B Grade. 81% of all students achieved 5 or more A* to C Grades. 77% of all students achieved 5 or more A* to C Grades including English and Mathematics, significantly exceeding both the county and the national averages. ALL of our students achieved 5 or more GCSE grades, this is the first time we have achieved this incredible statistic. At Advanced Level Our students have made us all very proud. We wish them all the very best for their exciting futures. This has been another extraordinary year of results at William Farr with a record number of students sitting at Advanced Level. With the average number of UCAS points at 88.5 per A level exam per student, this represents the highest total ever achieved. This strengthens and confirms our reputation for academic excellence. 51% of all grades were A*, A or B grades, with 78% of students achieving one or more of these higher grades. 33 students achieved at least one A* as part of their examination successes. Over 71% of all students gained 4 or more A Level subject passes. 5 Students confirm places at Oxbridge. Virtually all students qualified for the University course of their choice.

Solid Performance in GCSE Results At William Farr we are extremely proud of all of our students and the great range of successes they achieve, including their examination results. Our results hold up against any school in Britain however they are measured. At GCSE we feel that one of the best ways to compare our results is to use the Government s measure of 5 A* to C grades including English and Mathematics. The English Baccalaureate The English Baccalaureate is a qualification made up of GCSE in English, Mathematics, a Humanity, a Language and 2 Sciences. There has been a lot of press about this qualification and its political importance. At William Farr School we encourage all students to follow a broad and balanced curriculum and this can be clearly seen by our results in the English Baccalaureate.

Our Students Success at A Level Another fantastic year of A Level results further established William Farr School as one of the most successful Sixth Forms in the country. The key for us at Sixth Form is the number of students who achieve a place to study at the university of their choice. Nationally only 62% of students gain their first or second choice for UCAS application. At William Farr School the figure this year was 85%. Academic Success at A Level William Farr continues to achieve outstanding grades at A Level. For the past 6 years over 40% of all grades have been in the range of A*, A or B grades. This year this figure rose to an amazing 51%. Our pass rate continues to be exceptionally high with 98% of all examinations resulting in a pass. 80.0 75.0 70.0 65.0 60.0 55.0 50.0 2006200720082009201020112012 Average points score per candidate per exam Boys and girls performed equally well with both getting a similar average point score per entry, overall this was 88.5 points per exam per student. We were delighted with the success students had against target grades and their university offers. Achieving this was helped by 33 students achieving at least one A* grade in their portfolio of examinations and 121 students achieving at least one A*-B grade. 11 students achieved 2 or more A* grades at A Level. This has enabled students to have access to a great number of universities or work placements. All of our students are supported in this process and the influence of knowing their form Tutor for a number of years is clearly evident by the success rate of achieving the university place that they want.

University Success for our Students The end of many of our students journey is to achieve a place at one of their universities of their choice. 77% of candidates secured their firm choice this year 86% either their firm or their insurance. (The figures for last year were 77% and 85% respectively.) 29% of students gained a place at a Russell Group university this year. All 3 students applying for Medicine this year received offers and gained places at the medical school of their choice. Special mention must go to 5 students with confirmed Oxbridge places: John Freeman, Downing College, Cambridge Emily Coulter, Selwyn College, Cambridge Anya Green, New College, Oxford Jack Culpin, St Edmund Hall, Oxford Chris Bridgewood, St Benet s Hall, Oxford Well done to the following for exceptional performance: Rachel Ram, 3 A*, 1 A Emily Sidebottom, 2 A*, 3 A, 1 B Patrick Campbell, 2 A*, 2 A Charlotte Hackney, 2A*, 2A Emily Bird, 2A*, 1A, 1B Ashton Hills, 2A*, 1A, 1B Jonathan Drury, 2A*, 1A Georgia Tomlinson, 2A*, 2C And in the face of great adversity congratulations to Jo Tolley on securing a place a Bishop Grosseteste University College to read Literature.
