Our School Council President Mr Nigel Catt set about investigating possible schools and emailing across the globe to find a school that would be suitable. Hidden Valley Elementary School in Canada has established a Sister School relationship with our school. The Hidden Valley School is located in the Yukon amongst mountains in a rural setting. The students are bussed to and from school and enjoy a winter time with thick snow and ice covered roads. The geographical settings of the two schools are vastly different and of course there are cultural differences that we can share and celebrate. During our summer holiday break the students at Hidden Valley School were attending school in their winter term. So they took the opportunity to write introductory letters to the students here at WPS. When we arrived back at school for 2016 the letters were waiting for us and we learnt lots about the children in the Yukon Canada. In return every student in this school wrote a letter back and these were posted a few weeks ago. There were lots of letters and the parcel was very heavy so it may take quite a while to reach our friends in the Yukon. We look forward to hearing back from them. coats, gloves and beanies! The website for Hidden Valley Elementary School is http://hve.yukonschools.ca/ you might like to visit the site and see what s happening there. The school is smaller than our school with less students but similar learning subjects are taught with a couple of very interesting different subjects, like Ice Fishing! The students enjoy performing and have music and art classes as well. When doing the ice fishing they wear big thick warm On Harmony Day next Monday March 21 st all the students at Watsonia Primary School will be making a friendship band to send off to the Hidden Valley School students. We hope that they will like these friendship bands and be able to wear them to remind them of the friends they have in Australia. We are also setting up a Dropbox on our computers to share pictures and stories of the things we love about our respective countries. We ll let you know more as the year goes on. Today we held the annual Ride to School day. Lots of students were involved riding their bikes and scooters around the school grounds. Some students were even able to ride their bikes or scooters to school for the day. It was fantastic to see the Grade 4 students using the skills they have been learning in the Bike Ed sessions to ride safely and confidently around the oval. Tomorrow Friday March 18 th is the Grade 5/6 Learning Showcase at 2.45pm. Come along and see your child s work and share in the experiences of all the students as they share and celebrate their learning. On Saturday March 19 th the school is holding an Open Morning from 9.30am. Current parents are asked to come along and assist with a working bee in the grounds. This is a very important time for our school as the involvement of the parent body promotes a very positive impression on the visitors. Also parents can speak to other parents of the school and gain feedback about our school. We need your help with this so please come along and lend a hand. Ian Culbard is organising the working bee so please contact him if you require further information. Next week is the final week of school for Term 1. This has been a short term due to the Easter break being in March. The last week will only be for 4 days and the last day of school is Thursday March 24 th as Friday March 25 th is a public holiday for Good Friday. School will finish at 2.30pm on Thursday March 24 th. Please ensure that your children are picked up by 2.30pm. School resumes for Term 2 at 9.00am on Monday April 11 th.
