SAVE THE DATE To thank our Families and Parent Helpers Wednesday 10 December 2:30pm We sincerely thank all families and friends of our community who have contributed in any way to the daily life of our school in 2014. If you are able to attend the afternoon tea, we look forward to seeing you there. If you aren t able to attend, the staff at St Leo s acknowledge and appreciate your commitment to the education and wellbeing of our students. ADVENT First Week of Advent: Sunday 30 NOVEMBER 2014 The first candle of the Advent Wreath is called the Prophet s candle. It reminds us of the prophets who spoke God s Word to the people during the hundreds of years before Jesus was born. The Prophets told the people what God was going to do and they instructed the people on how to get ready. O Jesus Christ, Emmanuel, come and dwell with us. Desire of all nations; Gift to every generation, Come, make your home with us. All nations, everybody, is waiting for you, Indians and Esquimos are waiting for you, People in New York are waiting for you. People in Beijing are waiting for you. Jesus, come to us.

CONGRATULATIONS Congratulations to Mia Watts and her brother Connor on their Baptism on Sunday at St Leo s Parish. God bless you both on this very special time in your faith journey. Congratulations to Nicholas Bervanakis (former student) who received a scholarship from Emmanuel College. Well done Nicholas and best wishes for your future. MATHS APP OF THE WEEK! Number pieces basic by the math learning center Number Pieces Basic helps students develop a deeper understanding of place value while building their computation skills with multi-digit numbers. SKOOLBO Congratulations to Lucas in grade 1RA for being this week s Skoolbo winner. Remember a maximum of 20 mins each day on Skoolbo is needed to improve your child s literacy and numeracy skills. Skoolbo UPDATE: Some students have reported that they are having difficulty with Skoolbo. Please check that you have the latest version (Updated in October) of Skoolbo loaded on your device or computer. You should be running V AU 1.6.4. Updates for the program can be found on the itunes store and the Skoolbo Aussie website. As you may have noticed on the Skoolbo Leaderboard, Skoolbo is approaching 100 Million Skoolbo answers, in their first year of operation in Australia. Skoolbo anticipate that they will reach the 100 Million mark by the end of the week So the countdown is on: Who will answer the 100 Millionth answer? Which state and school can claim bragging rights? All these questions and more will be answered in the coming days Maybe it will be someone from St Leo s.

SPORT NEWS Indoor Soccer On Friday 14 th November the students in grade 6 represented St Leo s at the District Indoor Soccer competition. The students displayed some great soccer skills as well as team work and cooperation. Both teams performed exceptionally well with the boys team placing 1 st overall on the day and the girls placing 3 rd. Well done to all students. At Indoor Soccer the boys won all of their games and won the tournament. All the games we played we won by 6 goals or more, however the last game that we played was very tricky. We only won 3-0 and that game was against St Augustine s. It was good to see all the different schools competing against each other. We would like to say a big thank you to all the different teachers, students and referees for making this day a memorable one. By George 6CC Regional Golf Finals On Friday 21 st November, Izak in grade 5SZ represented St Leo s at the Victoria Primary Schools Regional Finals. He performed very well on the day and has shown great skills to make it to this stage of the competition. Izak s overall score for the day was 42 and placed 7 th out of 52 students. Well done Izak! We are very proud of your efforts!

St Leo the Great 28 th November 2014 Hi everyone, We have had such a great time this Term participating in the Global Citizenship Program. We made lots of gifts including friendship bracelets and Australian animal masks and we have now sent them over to the Sophakama Organisation for the children to receive at Christmas. We have had a lot of fun learning about South Africa and what it means to be a global citizen. As the year is coming to an end I want to take this opportunity to remind you all of a few things- If you have permanent bookings with Camp Australia these will carry over into the New Year. This is perfect if you are planning to continue using the service (which I hope you are) but if you will no longer be needing the service, or if your child is moving schools please don t forget to cancel your bookings to avoid being charged. As always over the holidays Camp Australia will be running a Holiday Program which is always a lot of fun. The program is offered in a number of locations and starts/ends on different dates throughout Dec-Jan. You can find out dates, locations and activities atwww.campaustralia.com.au/parents/holiday-club-finder I also wanted to remind everyone that I offer casual babysitting and will be available over the school holidays. I am always more than happy to negotiate a price that works for you I have attached a copy of my flyer with all of my details. Have a great weekend Mel
