For more info see Mrs. Watson - Good luck to members of the MathCounts team at their competition tomorrow (1/27) - The 7 th grade boys basketball team lost to Oceanside yesterday 57-48 in a much closer game than the final score revealed. Coach Delahanty would like to thank each of the young men for their efforts throughout the season and he greatly appreciated their commitment to the team and the respect they showed him and Coach Martin throughout the entire season. Team members should make sure uniforms are washed and ready for Coach Delahanty who will be here next Friday (2/2) at the end of the day to collect them. - The 7 th grade girls basketball team lost to Camden last night 20-36. MMS came out ready to play but the basket would not fall into the hoop for them. - The 8th grade girls basketball team defeated Camden last night 42-14 to advance to the Busline League Championship Game! Good luck to the girls and to Coach Ranquist as they will face Boothbay in Camden tomorrow (1/27) at noon. Bus leaves MMS at 9:45. The girls have practice today (1/26) from 2:15-3:45 - Good luck to the 8 th grade boys team and to Coach Williamson as they will also compete in the Busline League Championship game tomorrow (1/27). The boys will face Camden at Camden. The bus leaves MMS at 8:40 a.m. for a 10:00 a.m. game. The boys have practice today (1/26) from 3:45-5:15. - Good luck to Coach Benner and the MMS Cheerleaders as MMS will be hosting the Busline League Cheering Competition on Wednesday, Feb. 7 at 5 p.m. Admission is as follows: $5 for a Family, $2 for Adults, & $1 for Students - On February 8 there will be a field trip to Hidden Valley Nature Center. Students will spend the day outdoors snowshoeing. We will eat lunch and warm up in the barn. The trip is free. Snowshoes will be provided. If you are interested, sign up on Ms. Jaques' door (room 109). - The next Early Release Day will be Wednesday, Feb. 7. MMS will dismiss at noon on that day - 8 th graders who would like to submit a design for the cover of this year s Yearbook should see Mrs. Winslow in the Art Room for details. If your design is chosen for the cover of the 2017-2018 Yearbook you will get a free copy of the yearbook and $25 cash! The deadline to submit your design is Friday, February 16. Yearbook Cover Designs should be turned in to Mrs. Winslow - More information about The Waldoboro Rec Ski/Snowboard club is available in the MMS office or at waldoboromaine.org. The Waldoboro Rec Ski/sbowboard Club will begin Wednesday January 24th, and continue every Wednesday throughout the remainder of the season. The lift tickets will be $15 a piece and be good from 4pm-8pm. You may also purchase a lesson for $15

for those ages 7+($25 for ages 4-6 and must call the Snowbowl directly to arrange). Rental equipment will be available for $15 as well. Payments can be made to the Waldoboro Recreation Department in the form of cash or check. Lift tickets will be dispersed at the mountain from the club leader the day of. The deadline to register will be the Friday before each trip. So for the first trip on the 24th the deadline to register will be Friday, January 19th. Registration and rental forms can be found at waldoboromaine.org and at the Waldoboro Town office. For more information or questions, call 832-5369! - Drama Rehearsal and Drama Tech today (1/25) from 2-4. - All students that are guests at working Lunch & Fresh Air Time need to get all their materials gathered and drop them off in the RED wing and then get their lunches - A registered therapy dog, through Alliance of Therapy dogs, will be here full time to work with any students that need social/emotional support. If you prefer your child not have contact with her, please send a statement in writing. Any questions or concerns, please contact Mrs. Race at 207-5028. - For Sale - Riverhawk Socks! The MMS office is selling Riverhawk Socks available in blue with gold lettering or in white with blue lettering. Both styles have the Riverhawk logo. Socks are $20 a pair. - Reminder: The Late Bus runs only on Mondays. The Late Bus leaves MMS at 4:30 and drops off at the district elementary schools at approximately 4:45 (with the exception of Miller School) for parent pickup. The Late Bus does not drop off at individual homes. The Late Bus now also drops off at the mobile home park next to Miller School in Waldoboro - The next Academy Session is scheduled for Monday, Jan. 29 from 2-4:30. Academy sessions will be offered each week on the specified dates below from 2:00-4:30. Academy allows students to have a longer, concentrated time with teaching staff instead of the typical after school teacher help of only 30-45 minutes. The teacher who refers a student to Academy will get them started. A student may not need to attend all sessions, but it is requested they attend the first day. Please see the dates below for the days your student has been recommended to attend. If your child needs to leave Academy early, please make a note about the time and who will be picking them up. Future Academy Dates: February 1, 5, 8, 12, & 15 - Friendship Rec. Basketball for boys & girls now through March 5. All MMS students are welcome to join) - (Science Olympiad is usually held on Mondays from 2-5 and on Fridays from 2-4:30 through December 2017)

- (Outsiders Club is usually held on Mondays from 2-4) - (After School Art is usually held on Mondays from 2-4) - (Bearded Dragon Tuesdays are held during break in room 204 on Tuesdays. Students who would like to visit the Bearded Dragon are welcome on Tuesdays!) - (Chinchilla Thursdays are held during break in room 204 on Thursdays. Students who would like to visit the Bearded Dragon are welcome on Thursdays!) - Attention Parents: in the event that after school drop off plans change for your child, please notify the office as soon as you can - before 1:30 p.m. when possible. Dismissal can be a very busy and hectic time of the day. Ideally parents should notify the office in advance in writing. That being said, we do realize that occasionally things happen at the last minute. Thank you in advance for your help in this matter. Parents who have questions are encouraged to contact the office at 832-5028. - Attention parents: just a reminder that student cellphones are to remain off and in student lockers during school hours. Parental support would be greatly appreciated! - Just a reminder to students that hoods and hats should be removed upon entering the building - Fidget toys, SPINNERS, are not allowed at MMS. - During Fresh Air Time students and staff are reminded to refrain from using lanes 1 & 2 and to stay off the grass inside the track. Students should not be using the soccer fields - Attention Parents: Are you planning a vacation? Please be aware of the new MMS Planned Family Vacation Notification Form for students who will be missing school for a family vacation. The form should be completed and turned in to the office 5 days prior to the vacation date. The form can be found on our website and hard copies are available in the office. - Box Tops for Education MMS is collecting Box Tops! Please turn in neatly trimmed box tops to the Main Office or to Mrs. Shelmerdine in the Health Office. Past purchases with money earned has gone to playground balls and equipment bags for Fresh Air Time. Thank you for your support! - Infinite Campus Portal The Infinite Campus Portal creates an opportunity to enhance communication with students and parents while promoting educational excellence. Campus Portal is our tool for parents and students of the middle school and high school to access timely and secure student information such as class schedule, grades, assignments and attendance.

Campus Portal is a means to further promote educational excellence by enhancing our program of communication with parents and students. All parents/students accessing the MSAD 40 Parent Portal automatically authorize that they have read and agree to the RSU 40 Infinite Campus Portal Acceptable Use Policy. The district ID for RSU 40 is NYXNBF. To set up a new Parent Portal Account: If you have more than one child/student in different schools within RSU 40, you need only visit one of those schools to set up a new account. One account allows you access to all of your children. Please go to the school office of your student. The school administrative assistant will verify your parent/guardian status. You may be asked to present identification, so please bring a form of ID. You will be given an activation key that is needed. Once you have your activation key, you can go to the Infinite Campus Parent/Student Login to set up your account. You may need to expand the help menu by clicking on the arrow next to the word help. You will then find instructions for setting up your account with the activation key. *If you already have an Infinite Campus user s account you will be able to log into the Parent Portal using your current user name and password. If you can t remember what your user account and/or password is please contact your school office. - Attendance Policy Absences are categorized as either excused or unexcused. All absences, with the exception of absences for school-sponsored activities, count towards total student absences. A student s absence from school is excused when the absence is for one of the following reasons: 1. A personal illness 2. Doctor and/or dental appointments 3. Observance of a recognized religious holiday when the observance is required during a regular school day 4. Family emergency 5. A planned absence for a personal or educational purpose that has been approved by administration 6. Education disruption resulting in homelessness, hospitalization, foster care placement, out-ofdistrict placement that is not otherwise authorized by an IEP (Individual Education Plan) If a student is absent for any of the above reasons, the school administration must receive a phone call or a written note signed by a parent or guardian within 3 days of the absence in order for the absence to be considered excused. It is the students responsibility on or before their return to school to contact their teacher(s) regarding all work, tests, and class time missed and to arrange for all make-up work. Parents/students requesting homework for assignments missed due to an excused absence should allow 24 hours for collection of same. For any questions or for clarification of the Attendance Policy, parents should please contact the school at 832-5028.

- Students who arrive at school after 7:30 a.m. are considered tardy and must sign in at the office before going to class. Parents are reminded to please call the school (832-5028) if their child is going to be late or if their child is going to be absent from school.
