"#$%&'()*+,'-./01' 4Y Wan Lok Yan In one afternoon in March 2006, a group of F.4 students visited Hong Kong Police College in Wong Chuk Hang. Before the visit, our teacher reminded us that our uniform had to be neat and tidy. After arriving at the College, we felt that all the people there were very serious about almost everything as it was a very solemn place. A police instructor introduced to us the facilities inside the Police College. During the one-hour tour, we met many trainees who were police cadets, primary and secondary students who joined the special training class. They showed their cooperative team spirit during the training. This visit gave me an impression that both instructors and trainees had a lot of confidence. The purpose behind the training may help trainees understand themselves and build up a positive attitude towards work and life. In fact, I think all of us have such attitude hidden in us. But how can we apply this in our daily life? The best way is to set up a personal goal for our studies and life.

[ News from Alumni ] Erica has been one of St. Stephen's since she was in primary one. After graduation from SSC in 1997, Erica went to the States for her high school and tertiary study. After graduated in Economics major, Erica joined PCCW as a management trainee for almost two years until she decided to enter Miss Hong Kong Pageant 2005. Therefore, you need not be surprised if you find Erica's face familiar. You should have seen her on newspaper, magazines and TV, because Erica has joined TVB after becoming one of the top 5 finalists in MHK Pageant. She is now hosting entertainment news program and acting for drama series. Now let's share some memories in St. Stephen's with Erica. The Champion (A: Editor; E: Erica) You have left St. Stephen's for some years. Is there any event in St. Stephen's which you find it most memorable? It was the night before graduation from the preparatory school. Every one was so emotional and sensational. It was our last summer before we became a secondary school student. We were so reluctant to say farewell. We sneaked out from each others' room and gathered in the shower room, chatted nonstop throughout the night. I remember that we took a lot of pictures that night. It was excited because we had to be mindful in order not to be caught by our warden. It was a "wild" thing at that time. How has St. Stephen's changed you, or how has St. Stephen's led you become who you are today? St. Stephen's has really trained me a lot and changed me a lot. I find my experiences in St. Stephen's invaluable, especially to my artist life. I got a sense of music from my musical training, such as choir and orchestra, which is so important when I have to sing or dance in variety shows. The training in public speaking is also invaluable. I was trained to speak in a clear voice, accurate pronounciation with appropriate body language which made me more presentable, Erica in costumes which is a pre-requisite for a hostess and actor. St. Stephen's gives her students so many chances to present themselves and to speak in front of a crowd. You will find as trivial as making an announcement on the stage to be a useful experience in your life. Sports were another essential element of my life in St. Stephen's. Actors require smooth body coordination. Indeed, acting needs tremendous physical strength at times too! Are there any teachers you remember most? Oh, there are too many. Mr. Lee, my music teacher in the preparatory school. His strength, leadership and teaching style, as well as his religious nature has affected me a lot. Mr. Chau, my athletics coach, and Mr. Kam, who always encouraged me and helped me to build up my confidence. In SSC, there were Mr. Lam and Mr. Yim. Mr. Lam was like my friend. We had friendly discussion and he was so elaborative. Mr. Yim shared with me a lot of his experiences which I remember deeply. I always remember his generous smile. Erica, thank you for your sharing. Let's wish Erica a prosperous life in TVB.
