EOY Parent Mtg. 6:00 p.m. Sept. 30 Staff Professional Day No School for Students Morning Arrival Please remember that students SHOULD NOT arrive at school prior to 8am each day. Staff does not officially come on duty until that time. We have had an over-abundance of students arriving quite a bit earlier than the 8am. In addition if your child is not eating breakfast they do not need to arrive until 8:15. Those arriving before 8:15 and not eating breakfast will be expected to participate in Wake up and Walk in the Gym. Keeping Kids Safe Remember that our building is locked after arrival time (approximately 8:30 am). Please use the doorbell on the left side of the entrance. After the first few weeks, we ask that parents allow their children to walk back to their classrooms on their own. In accordance with our district safe schools guidelines, we ask that you show identification at the door, sign-in at the office, and wear a visitor s badge when you are visiting beyond the front office. Thank you for cooperation.

DENTAL OUTREACH TEAM AT COUNTRYSIDE Dr. Mollie Day and Dental Hygienists from Health Partnership Clinic will be at Countryside Elementary again this year to provide comprehensive Dental care. Dr. Day will be here on Monday, September 26, 2016. Dental hygienists will be here Monday, October 3, 2016. Repeated visits will be made until those that have signed up have been treated. Approx. 20 students can be seen in a day. More visits will be scheduled depending on # students to be seen. Dental services to be provided on site at the school: Dental X-rays, Dental cleaning, Fluoride, Sealants, Filling Cavities, Baby teeth root canals, Removing baby teeth, Free toothbrush, and Oral health education. After each time your child is treated a dental report card will be sent home to make the parent aware of the treatment completed and the treatment remaining. If a parent wants their child to be seen they must complete the School Healthcare Program consent form. These forms were offered at enrollment. If you want your child to participate and did not complete a form at enrollment contact Carol Helm RN, Countryside School Nurse at 780-7394. A form must be completed each school year. If they have insurance, it will be filed. If no insurance, care will be provided FREE. ANNUAL HEARING SCREENING The annual Hearing Screening will be on Thursday, October 13, 2016. Students to be screened on this day are: Grades K, 1,2,5, students that are new to the district, and all special education students. Parents will be notified of results only if their child did not pass the screening. If your child is currently under treatment for an ear infection/problem please let Carol Helm RN, School Nurse, know with a note or call 913-780-7394.

Parents Right to Know Requirements This notification is provided to inform you of your right to request the following specific information concerning the school and teachers: Parents may request information regarding the professional qualifications of their child s/children s classroom teachers and paraprofessionals. Professional qualifications include: Whether or not the teacher has met Kansas licensing criteria for the grade levels and subject areas being taught; The baccalaureate degree and any other graduate certification or degree and the field of discipline of both; If services are provided by paraprofessionals, their qualifications; If the teacher is teaching under an emergency or professional waiver. We are proud to inform our parents that all teachers at our school meet the above criteria. Each one is licensed for the grade levels and subject areas being taught. Each one has a baccalaureate degree and none are teaching under an emergency or provisional waiver. The paraprofessional(s), who work under the direction of the Title I and classroom teachers, meet required qualifications for the position. A teacher might not yet meet the federal highly qualified designation because of one of these reasons: They have moved here from another state and are teaching under provisional status, pending final paperwork from the State of Kansas that certifies they have fulfilled all of the requirements of teaching in Kansas. They are adding an endorsement area, but have completed only a portion of the university coursework required for the new endorsement, and they are teaching courses in the new area under provisional status for which the state has waived licensing criteria while they finish the required coursework. For those teachers affected by one of these situations, the district and the teacher have an action plan in place to reach highly qualified status as soon as possible. As a parent you will be contacted by me if your child is taught by a non highly qualified teacher for four continuous weeks or more. As a parent you have the right to request your child s state assessment scores. You have a right to obtain the school and school district state reports cards. This will be found on the district website once they are available from the state. Parent-School Compacts Because we believe in the power of a strong partnership between parents and our school, all families complete a Parent-School Compact. It was completed during the enrollment process. If you did not complete a Parent-School Compact, please contact your child s teacher. If you have questions or would like to request further information, please feel free to contact me at (913-780-7390.

A notice will be sent to parents of those still needing to complete their child s immunizations. If you have not yet done so, please turn in your child s kindergarten school physical. The school physical may be conducted up to 12 months prior to school entry and must be completed prior to the second Monday of second semester, January 9, 2017. Physical forms are available from the nurse or on-line on the district web site if you need another one. Please provide documentation of the completed requirements to the school nurse.
