In 2019, Athletics Australia and School Sport Australia will conduct this event. The individual events will be held at Kembla Joggers on Saturday, with the relay events held on Monday. An athlete can be selected for the National Championships by participating in the 2019 Queensland School Sport 10-19 Years Cross Country Championships conducted by Queensland School Sport in Darling Downs Region (Highfields Sport & Recreation Park) from July 20-22. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *.* * * * * * * * * SELECTION The major criterion for selection will be the performance of the athlete at the Queensland School Sport 10-19 Years Cross Country Championships. Areas of performance considered will include: The placing and time recorded by the athlete in the qualifying event. The attitude and behaviour of the athlete as a member of the team. The selections will be announced at the State Championships at Highfields Sport & Recreation Park on Monday 22 nd July. All selected athletes must collect appropriate paperwork from the team managers on Sunday or Monday 21 st /22 nd July, and submit a uniform order form (even if no uniform is required) to confirm selection in this team. Athletes accepting selection in this team must be present on all days at the National Championships in Kembla Grange, from Friday 23 rd August to Monday 26 th August, and participate in all programmed activities as required by the team managers. Failure to do so may jeopardise selection in future QSS teams. TEAM SIZE 10-12 Years Athletes Six (6) runners from each age group and gender will be invited to attend the School Sport Australia Cross Country Championships. Two (2) runners per age group will be listed as reserves. Should athletes be withdrawn, reserves will be invited to join the team. 13-19 Years Athletes A maximum team size of 60 athletes will be selected. Athletes will be selected in each age group (13 years, 14/15 years, 16/17 years, 18/19 years) in both boys and girls divisions, provided that the performance of the athlete in the championships warrants selection in the event. In addition to the team of 60 athletes, a squad of reserve athletes (the next best-performed athletes participating in the championships) will be named by the selectors. These will be announced in alphabetical order, regardless of gender or age. In the event of an athlete withdrawing from the team of 60, the selectors will name an athlete from the reserve squad, deemed to be the next best-performed athlete, to be added to the team. This athlete may not be of the same age or gender as the withdrawn athlete, and will be notified of their eligibility as soon as a position becomes available. In the event of late withdrawals, reserves may not necessarily be appointed as replacements. Multi-Class Athletes Each state/territory is entitled to enter three (3) athletes in each age/gender division in the 10 years, 11 years and 12 years and 13 years, 14/15 years, 16-19 years MULTI-CLASS events provided the qualifying standards and classification standards have been met. In the event that an age/gender division does not have three (3) qualifying athletes, athletes in another age/gender division may be selected if they meet the qualifying standard to make a total of 18 athletes across 10 12 years and 18 athletes across 13 19 years teams.
