The purpose of the Executive Summary (ES) is to provide a school with an opportunity to describe in narrative form the strengths and challenges it encounters. What unique features and challenges are associated with the community/communities the school serves?, located in Brandenburg, KY, has a current enrollment of about 750 7th & 8th graders from the Meade County area. Built in 1978 and renovated in both 1996 and 2003, the mission of the school is to provide quality education for ALL students. The school serves a primarily rural community that supports the students and the school district. The curriculum includes academic preparation, music and the arts, practical living and vocational studies, as well as health/physical education. Also offered are both academic and nonacademic extra-curricular activities. Students have access to a variety of cutting-edge technologies through both computer labs and classrooms. Internet access, voice amplification and projectors, a media center and writing/reading labs serve as just a few examples. State Contest Results: Our Future Problem Solving Team was Regional Champions and Team finished runner-up in the district. The Archery Team finished fifth in the state. Extracurricular Activities: SPMS offers a variety of activities including archery, football, basketball, volleyball, cheerleading, dance, academic team, FPS, band, chorus, yearbook staff, FCA, STLP, KUNA, and Special Olympics, along with our YSC sponsoring a variety of after-school activities. Opportunities are also offered for cross country, soccer, swimming, wrestling, golf, track, softball, and baseball. Awards & Recognitions: SPMS received honors for academic and athletics excellence. KUNA and KYA held conference awards and had students nominated for leadership teams. The 8th Grade Traveling Squad Football Team finished as Conference Champion and made it to the quarter-finals in the state tournament. The 8th Grade Girls and 7th Grade Boys Basketball Teams finished as Runners-up in their conference tournaments.
