LEADERSHIP WITH OUR NEW STUDENT MODELS IN PLACE IN THE DRIVEWAY, IT IS A TIMELY REMINDER TO OBEY THE SPEED LIMIT AND PARKING RULES SO ALL MEMBERS OF THE ST JOSEPH S COMMUNITY REMAIN SAFE. We hope that all fathers in our school community had a wonderful Father s Day. I am sure that you were suitably surprised and impressed by the wonderful gift that your child purchased from the Father's Day Stall. Thank you to the families in our community that have contributed to the organisation of the stall especially Donna Sawyers and Cara Dalton. Thank you to all who assisted with the purchasing, setting up and sales on the day your efforts were greatly appreciated. This weekend a number of students from the parish including 14 students from St. Joseph s - Orlando A, April C, Liam M, Ciara L, Jonathan B, Jorja H, Felicity C, Lachlan B, Sebastian D, Riley E, Raphael M, Lachlan G, Shaun C and Anthony T will receive the Sacrament of Eucharist. Thank you to our parish, families and staff who have assisted with the preparation of the students over the last couple of months and ensured they have been present at the weekend liturgies. The students will receive the Sacrament this Saturday, 9th September at 6.00pm (St Joseph s Church) and Sunday, 10th September at 9.30am (St Bernadette s) and 11am (St Joseph s). Please keep these students in your prayers as they prepare for this special day. Students receiving the Sacrament MUST arrive at least 30 minutes prior to the start of Mass for photos. Tomorrow Thursday, 7th September a large team of Year 3-6 students will be representing the school in the District Athletics competition. We wish these students all the best for this event. We congratulate our students on their recent NAPLAN results. Although these are one very small part of our total assessment and reporting process (and results are from a small snapshot of their learning) we are proud of our overall achievements. Our Year 3 results in particular were exceptional with our school mean well above the State Mean in all areas. Our Year 5 results also demonstrated that most students had made medium to high growth compared to their Year 3 results. Thanks to our students, teachers, support staff and parents who put in so much effort to support the learning at our school, as this leads to improved student outcomes. 1

As we are now in September, students are reminded to bring their school hats back to school. In accordance to our SunSmart Policy students must wear hats when they are outside, this includes playtime, sport and excursions. If children do not have their hat on they will not be able to participate in outdoor activities. During the remainder of Term 3 students may wear either their summer or winter uniforms as the weather is quite unpredictable. Thank you to families who have already completed and returned (or completed online) their Parent Opinion Survey as part of the School Improvement Surveys conducted by InSight SRC. The opinions of parents at the school are an important indicator of how well the school is meeting the needs of the students. To help us review our school and plan for the future, we would like to gauge your views in a number of areas. If you are one of the families that received the survey we ask that they are returned or completed on-line by this Friday, 8th September. Please notify the office immediately if you have completed the survey so you can go in the draw for the $50 voucher. Our second Special Lunch day for this term was held today. Thank you to Melinda Toce for her organisation of this to provide this treat for our students. The first planning meeting for this year s Year 6 Graduation was held yesterday. Thank you to all parents that attended. If you are able to assist with the planning and organisation please let the Gayle or Marg know in the office. The next meeting is scheduled for 9am Wednesday October 25. We have purchased another Student Learning Portfolio for students for the second half of the year as we now include the School Report in them during Term 2 and 4. The Student Learning Portfolios are an ongoing assessment and teachers are constantly adding work samples to these. The Student Learning Portfolios will be sent home during the last week of term on Thursday, 21st September. Families are reminded that Fees and Levies for 2017 are now due. It would be appreciated if all fees and levies could be finalised by the end of this term. If you are experiencing difficulty in meeting this deadline we encourage you to contact the office. Jump off day will be held on Friday, 22nd September. On this day children will have the opportunity to showcase their skipping skills, enjoy fun and vigorous activity and celebrate their efforts of raising some money for the Heart Foundation. Once again the term has flown by as we enter our last weeks of the term. Term 3 concludes on Friday, 22nd September at 3.25pm. Term 4 commences on Monday, 9th October. The coffee van will again be present on the first day of term for your complimentary drink for adults to kickstart the term. Also commencing on the first day of Term 4 is the Prep Year 4 Swimming Program (Year 5-6 Swimming Program will be held later in the term from Monday, 4th December to Friday, 15th December). Notes relating to the swimming program were sent home last week - please keep this note with information relating to the swimming program in a safe place so you are aware of what your child needs to bring and do on the first day. Finally, Leonie will be taking Long Service Leave for the remainder of the term. We wish Leonie safe and enjoy travels during this time. During the next couple of weeks Mr Nick Frederiksen our Deputy Principal and myself will be available to assist in Leonie s absence. Have a great week. Peter Vanstan 2
