International Business and Chinese Enterprise Tradition & Modernity; Chinese & the West

IBCE Journey Starts Here The International Business and Chinese Enterprise (IBCE) stream is the first and only undergraduate program in Hong Kong with an emphasis on international business activities between the United States and China. It aims at training a group of future business leaders that are equipped with comprehensive knowledge about the business environment in China and the United States. IBCE builds on the unparalleled access that The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) offers to China and Asia, the strong Chinese language program available, and the outstanding professors and curriculum of the CUHK Business School. The Darla Moore School of Business at the University of South Carolina (USC) brings to its alliance recognized excellence in international business and its facility for developing innovative academic programs, as well as its location in a region markedly integrated with the global economy. Program Structure This is a 4+1 program. Upon completion of the 4-year undergraduate degree at CUHK, participating students will receive a bachelor s degree awarded by CUHK (i.e. Bachelor of Business Administration). They will then continue the 1-year Master of International Business (MIB) program at USC. 1 Year 1&2 at CUHK Year 3 at USC Year 4 at CUHK 1-Year MIB at USC

Exclusive Opportunities Professional Development IBCE organizes various activities and training for students with the aim of sharpening their leadership skills, fostering team building, as well as nurturing their ability to view the world globally. The professional development provided is certainly a highlight of the program. Global Business Forum Mentorship Program Case Analysis Training Team Effectiveness Workshop Career Workshops IBCE students are encouraged to work in the United States and China. Through the internship aboard, students can immerse in a truly global environment and learn the soft skills in working with people from various backgrounds and with very different cultures and working styles. These all prepare IBCE students to become international business leaders in the future. International Working Experience The internship in the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in New York has enabled me to understand Hong Kong and New York more. It is great to have this hands-on experience to work in a governmental organization and attend different events such as the 20 anniversary Gala Dinner and different luncheon events. Heather Hsu, Class of 2019 3

Overseas Trips are designed to give students the opportunities to explore different cultures and understand how businesses work across regions in the world. With corporate visits arranged, students can also go deep into specific industries and companies. Study Trip to Myanmar This year, the study trip to Yangon, Myanmar, was spread across 8 days from 28 September to 5 October 2017. During the trip, IBCE students had the chance to experience local cultures in Myanmar, and gain new insight on business practices through firm visits. The trip revealed the beauty and potentials of Myanmar to us. We saw kindness, honesty and passion everywhere - from senior business management and university professors, to our tour guide and other locals in markets, restaurants, etc. Besides, while we have been learning about outsourcing and factory relocations for years, it was a fresh experience for most of us to visit a clothing factory or a wood factory in person. All of a sudden, all the theories became real in front of us, stimulating reflections on efficiency and labor rights. Genatt Yung, Class of 2018 Orientation Trip to Inner Mongolia With the aim to experience company culture and managerial styles of Chinese enterprises, Year 2 IBCE students from CUHK and the University of South Carolina (USC) went to Hohhot and Baotou in Inner Mongolia for a 7-day orientation trip in August 2017. In this 7-day cohort orientation trip, IBCE batch 8 students were given with precious chances to visit some of the well-recognized companies in Inner Mongolia over various industry sectors. The trip did not merely mark the tightened bonding of the cohort class, but it is through the visits to companies differentiated from industry genres, scale of operations and targeted markets, that offer great insights for us to see how companies strive in different industries yet sharing similar missions and values. Elaine Ng, Class of 2020 4

IBCErs Sharing In these 4 years, you will learn, grow and laugh together with your American counterparts. You can never imagine they will become your most treasurable persons in your life. As the first batch pioneer, I am proud to say - IBCE is a place enabling you to realize your dream. Wayne CHU, Class of 2013 IBCE is not merely just the title of a program, it s an adventure that you start with a bunch of interesting and dynamic people, where I got chances to expose to different opportunities and venture over amazing experiences. I am fortunate enough to be able to set up my own start-up with all kinds of support that are connected through IBCE. The advice and network that I have got from the program assisted me in many aspects. China is one of the biggest economies in the world at the moment and I am sure IBCE is definitely the right program for the trend. There s not a single moment of regret for getting into this program, and if you re reading this now, I would say you wouldn t want to miss it! Winnie Lee, Class of 2016 Students from the International Business and Chinese Enterprise are given a chance to take the initiative to organize world-class business events such as the upcoming Global Business Forum. I am really looking forward to my 4 years in IBCE, especially in the US exchange program which I believe would be a fruitful experience! Wilson WONG, Class of 2019 IBCE provides ample opportunities and support for us to actualize our goals and aspirations. From the strong alumni networks to close relationships between batch mates, being a part of the IBCE program has sparked my interest in learning, developed my business acumen, as well as allowed me to make great friends through the once-in-a-lifetime journey."
