GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
CORE 40 CORE 40 WITH ACADEMIC HONORS 8 credits of English 6 credits of Math: one math or QR course each year, including Alg I, Geometry, and Alg II 6 Science credits, to include Bio I, and either Chem I, ICP, or Physics. 6 Social Studies credits, including US History, World History, Government and Economics. TOTAL = 40 CREDITS 8 credits of English 8 credits of Math must have a math or QR reasoning all 4 years of high school 6 Science credits, to include Bio I and Chem I, ICP, or Physics. 6 Social Studies credits, including US History, World History, Government and Economics 3 years of one foreign language, or 2 years each of 2 languages. 2 Fine Arts credits Music, Art, Theatre Arts or Student Publications Earn 6 verifiable transcripted college credits, 4 AP credits, or a combination of the two TOTAL = 47 CREDITS COMPARISON

HONORS INTERDISCIPLINARY OR REGULAR? LANGUAGE ARTS & U.S. HISTORY Students who are diligent about completing/turning in homework are likely to be successful in English 9 Honors ID. Must be earning A or high B in current class If your student signs up for English 9 Honors ID, they will be co-enrolled in U.S. History Honors ID. These classes will focus on content specific literacy and writing skills.
HONORS OR REGULAR? STUDENTS WITH ALGEBRA AND BIOLOGY IN 8 TH GRADE Your next math course is Geometry Honors. (based on success in Algebra I and teacher recommendation) It is not recommended to take both Geometry and Algebra II in your 9 th grade year Science course selections include: Chemistry I, Chemistry I Honors, and/or Principles of Biomedical Science depending on performance in Algebra I
DO I TAKE THE RIGOROUS CLASS AND RISK A LOWER GRADE OR TAKE THE EASIER CLASS AND ENSURE A GOOD GRADE? Freshman year is a huge transition, even for strong students. Consider time commitments Focus on strengths/interests Consider teacher recommendations Take an honest look at past performance If an A/B is likely in the rigorous course, go for it with a positive attitude & work hard! You do NOT have to take every honors class in order to complete an honors diploma.

THE WAY THINGS WORK One semester class = 1 credit. Yearlong classes earn 2 credits total. 7 periods per day x 2 semesters = 14 credits per school year that can be earned during the day. Minimum number of credits for a diploma is 40. The more prestigious honors diploma requires more, with a minimum of 47. There is time in the day to complete 56 credits over 4 years.

Students will enter requests into Skyward on February 2 nd and you may make online adjustments until February 15 th at 5 p.m. There are no changes to requests after May 1 st. This includes changes to the second semester.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT? We use student requests to generate the master schedule. Counselors will meet with students individually to finalize course requests. This spring, changes to requests made after you meet with your counselor will be on a space available basis until the end of the school year. Requests for a particular teacher or lunch period cannot be accommodated. Finalized schedules will be available at the start of the next school year.
