New playground Have you seen the new play area for our students? Once completed, the area will be a huge improvement to the playing space for our students. Big projects like this just don t happen. They are accomplished because we have a number of parents who give up their time and expertise to ensure our students can have the best possible educational environment. I would like to thank Mr Aaron Hudson, Mr Darrell McLean, Mr Peter Rutherford and Mr Les Edwards who have given up their time and energy to assist with the project. I would also like to give a special thank you to Mr Richard Hazzard, Vice President of the P&C, who has been a driving force when it came to the construction of the new oval. A special mention must be made about the fantastic support provided by Kimbrikki Resource Recovery Centre and local Ingleside firm, Mathews Consulting. Without their ongoing support the playground project would not have been possible. Navy Band Last year the Navy Band performed at the school to a very enthusiastic audience. Due to popular demand the Navy Rock Band will be performing again on Thursday, 19 February. We are asking students to bring in a gold coin donation on the day to support our school band. Parent information nights There has been a slight change to the week 3 schedule. Year 2 parent information night will now be on Wednesday, 11 February at 6pm, 2/3ST will be on Monday, 9 February at 6pm. The complete schedule is Kindergarten Monday 9 February at 6pm, Year 1 Thursday February at 6pm, Year 2, Wednesday 11 February at 6pm, Class 2/3ST Monday 9 February at 6pm, Year 3 Monday 9 February at 7pm, Year 4 Thursday 12 February at 7pm, Year 5 Tuesday 10 February at 6pm, Year 6 Tuesday 10 February at 7pm. Please note that Year 5 parents of 5/6R will attend the Year 5 session on Tuesday 10 February at 6pm and Year 6 parents the 7pm session on the same night. Positive Behaviour Engaging Learners (PBEL) PBEL is our pastoral care program to support the welfare of our students. Our three core values are Respect, Achievement and Responsibility. This week and last week our teachers have been going through the meaning of each word and helping the students gain a better understanding of what those three words mean in the context of our school. Welcome BBQ Are you a Kindergarten parent? Are you new to the school? If you answered yes to either question please come along to our welcome BBQ this Friday, 6 February from 5:30pm. This is a great opportunity to meet other parents, become part of the school community and meet the parents of your child s new friends. School Swimming Carnival The School Swimming Carnival is on this Wednesday. The carnival will be held at the Warringah Aquatic Centre from 12:30pm. If you have the opportunity, please come along and support our students and teachers. P&C meeting The next P&C meeting is on Wednesday, 18 February at 7:30pm in the staffroom. I look forward to seeing you there. Until next time, Your Principal, Bill Gillespie

????? TIM COWDERY P&C PRESIDENT... P&C Meeting The first P&C Meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, 18 February at 7.30pm in the Staffroom. Some parents have requested a later start as it is easier for them, and hopefully others, to attend. All members of the school community are encouraged to raise items for the meeting agenda and attend the meeting. This includes families, teachers, school admin staff and members of the wider community. The P&C is here to represent you. Agenda Items Many thanks to those who have raised items for the Agenda. Items must relate to the broad goal of improvement for the benefit of the school s students. This includes fundraising ideas that allow for programs currently that cry out for resources. Submissions close at the end of this week and it is appreciated that they be emailed to: elanorahtspandc@gmail.com by Friday, 6 February. Please put Agenda 1 in the subject line. The Agenda will be published in Connect and on the school website under P and C one week prior to the meeting so everyone knows what to expect. Year K Welcome BBQ The P&C is delighted to welcome all parents who have children starting in Kindergarten this year. It doesn t matter if it s your first child starting or your tenth (although we do draw a line at 15, up from 11 last week), we d love to see you all. You get the chance to assess the sausage sizzling skills of the Principal and President (both claiming professorial levels of expertise, not to mention modesty) and the best part is the price. It s free but the experience is priceless. We look forward to meeting you at 5pm in the surrounds of the Canteen on Friday, 6 February. IN FOCUS THIS WEEKS FEATURES... Already we have nearly 30 students registered for Senior Concert Band & 56 (YES 56!!) students registered for Training Concert Band. How exciting! If you know of any child that hasn t managed to get a position in band, it s not too late!! Please get them to contact Beck Heather at becko1@optusnet.com.au Lunch Time Rehearsals We suggest that when your child has a lunch time rehearsal, ask them to eat their lunch at recess & their recess at lunch. Please avoid hot lunch orders from the canteen on that day too as they won t have a chance to eat their lunch until AFTER band rehearsal. Mr.Steinmann will let them pack up 5 minutes before lunch ends so they can eat their lunch quickly and most teachers are quite accommodating and will let them have their lunch when they get back to class as long as they don t disrupt the rest of the class. Vacant Positions There are still positions vacant on the Music Committee. We are a friendly bunch so feel free to come join us and help get our Music Program running smoothly. Please contact Beck Heather if you are interested in helping out in any capacity. For Sale One Toot Flute for sale! Pearl Quantz 525 Silver lip plate flute. RRP around $800. Selling for $550. This flute is brand new - my daughter played it ONCE at her flute exam last year. Comes with lined shoulder bag and cleaning cloths. Please call Laurinda Lomas at school on 9913 7283.
