May 26th LAST PIZZA FRIDAY! Congratulations We were able to acknowledge the accomplishments of our students at our AR Awards chapel today. Mrs. Hill and our second graders were named to the Renaissance National Honor Roll. Our librarian, Mrs. Alkema, also received honors from Renaissance Learning. This recognition is awarded to teachers who have implemented reading programs successfully and have led their students to meet or exceed data targets that research shows leads to significant student growth. We are very proud of all of our teachers and students as they continue to pursue excellence in reading skills. VCS Presents... The VCS High School Drama Class and the 8th Grade Music Class have joined forces to present Uncle Phil s Diner 2. This is an interactive dinner theater production set in a 1950s diner that will serve up lots of fun with food, audience participation, music, games and drama. Tickets have been sold. We can t wait! What: Dinner, Dessert and a Show! When: Friday, May 19th at 6pm Where: Christ United Methodist Church 1475 Center Rd, Venice AR Ice Cream Party During lunch time on Thursday, May 25th, Mrs. Alkema and Mrs. Stuckey will be hosting their annual ice cream party for students participating in the Accelerated Reader program! If you are interested in helping dish out ice cream or toppings, please let Mrs. Alkema know at MAlkema@VeniceChristianSchool.org. The 2016-17 yearbooks have arrived! If you ordered a yearbook online, Mrs. Oxboel delivered that yearbook to your student s homeroom today. If you did not order a yearbook online but would still like to get one, there will be a limited number of yearbooks for sale in the front office. The cost of the yearbook is $32. The office does not have change, so we ask that you please pay with exact cash or check. (Please write Yearbook in the memo field.) Office hours are 8:00am - 3:30pm. 2

For the month of May, we are collecting diapers and wipes for Pregnancy Solutions. If you are able to donate, we would ask that you choose the diaper size that corresponds to your student s grade. Middle School and High School students/families who are able to donate are asked to donate baby wipes. Thursday, May 25th is the last day to donate diapers, as they will be collected in chapel on Friday, May 26th. Thank you for being a blessing to others! VPK/K - size N 1 st grade - size 1 2 nd grade - size 2 3 rd grade - size 3 4 th grade - size 4 5 th grade - size 5 MS/HS - wipes 8th Grade fundraiser VCS JEANS DAYS Friday, May 26th is the last day students and staff can wear jeans for $2.00! *Jeans must be full pants or capris and of modest fit.* NO SHORTS ALLOWED. If your pants do not meet modest expectations, administration will have you change. You must wear your normal VCS shirt. Please pay $2 to your homeroom teacher on the day you wear jeans. 3

We are collecting new and used shoes for 6-15 year old children in Belize. Without a backpack and a pair of shoes, these children are unable to attend school! Please bring in any shoes that your children have outgrown. Any size will do! We will be collecting shoes through the end of the school year. The collection bin is located under the awning. GRADUATION IS COMING! At VCS we have graduation events for students in Preschool, Kindergarten, 8th grade and 12th grade. Here is a list of graduation dates/times. (Preschoolers have their graduation ceremony in Lion s Hall at the end of the year.) VCS Employment Opportunities We are currently looking for a Preschool Director for the 2017-18 school year. If you are interested in serving in the ministry of Christian education, please consider submitting a resume. If you are a retired teacher who would like to jump back into the classroom here and there, please send a resume! If you have a CDL with a Passenger and School Bus endorsement we would love to talk to you about driving students on field trips throughout the year. ALSO - the VCS Athletic Department is in need of a Cross Country Coach for the 2017 fall season. Þ Practices start the week of 8/21 Þ Meets start 9/11 and are held every Monday for 6 weeks Þ Championship Meet is Monday 10/16 (This is an 8 week season) As the coach, you can set the practice days that work for you. Practices could be held anywhere from 2-4 days per week, with practice times anywhere between 2:30-4:30 pm. The meets on Mondays start at 4:00 pm and finish around 5:30 pm. Ideally it would be wonderful to have someone in place before the summer so that you can take advantage of the summer community runs, get to know the team and have them primed and ready to go for the fall season! If your student has lost something, please come and check out the Lost and Found to see if you can find it. The Lost and Found is located in the hallway outside of Room 102 in the main office building. Items not collected before the end of the year will be donated. 6
