Upcoming Events Wednesday, September 20th: PSAT registration forms and $16 fee due in the HS office Thursday, September 21st: A UW-Madison representative is available for questions in the library during 1st block (8am) Thursday, September 28th - A Ripon College representative is available in the library during Rocket Block. Thursday, September 28th - FAFSA Presentation (see below), 6-8pm, Room 102 Wednesday, October 11th - PSAT test, 7:45-11am, Room 102 Thursday, October 12th - A St. Norbert representative is available in the library during 2nd block starting at 10am. Thursday, November 2nd - An Edgewood College representative is available in the library during Rocket Block. Tuesday, November 14th - A UW-Milwaukee representative is available in the library during Rocket Block Wednesday, November 15th - A Marian University representative is available in the library during 3rd block starting at 11:45am. Wisconsin Education Fairs Juniors and seniors - consider attending a nearby education fair! Over 100 representatives from various colleges, universities, trade schools and the military will be on hand to meet you and answer your questions. Here are some upcoming fairs: Marian University - Monday, October 16th from 9am to 11am Lakeland University - Thursday, October 19th from 9am to 11am If you would like to attend, register at www.gotocollegefairs.com to receive a barcode for check-in. Also, PSAT Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test Test Date: Wednesday, October 11, 2017-7:45-11am Test Location: CGB High School, Room 102 ( Study Hall ) The PSAT/NMSQT is usually taken by juniors who plan to attend a four year university or want to gain testing experience. Only those scores earned by high school juniors are assigned a selection index which will be used in the National Merit Scholarship competition. Interested sophomores may also pay the test fee and take the test on a space available basis as a practice test to prepare for testing junior year. If you plan to take this test, you must complete the bottom portion of this form and return it with the $16.00 test fee to the Cedar Grove-Belgium High School office before 3:30 P.M. on Wednesday, September 20th. Late registration will be accepted only on a space available basis. Each student who registers for the PSAT receives a 2017 PSAT/NMSQT Student Bulletin which contains sample tests, test-taking tips, information on calculator use, details on the National Merit Scholarship Program, and other useful information. We highly recommend that students review this material prior to the test. Please see Ms. Smillie if you have questions.

The Counselor s Corner, continued... Page 4 Juniors and Seniors: Financial Aid Information Night The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) can be submitted starting on October 1st! Come to our Financial Aid Information Night for seniors and their parents to learn more about the FAFSA and how to complete it. This is also a great informational session for juniors and their parents to get prepared for financial aid. Presented by: A Financial Aid Representative from Lakeland University WHEN: Thursday, September 28th 6:00 to 8:00pm WHERE: Cedar Grove-Belgium High School, Room 102 In order to provide enough handouts, please RSVP to Mrs. Smillie with how many will attend in your group by: Signing up on the table outside the high school office, emailing Mrs. Smillie at msmillie@cgbrockets.com, or calling (920) 668-8686 ext. 553. Page 5 Lakeshore Health Care Alliance The Lakeshore Health Care Alliance (LSHCA) is again offering group sessions for hands on educational experiences for students. The fall sessions are available online now! The session descriptions, dates and times are currently posted online on a link through the LSHCA website at http://www.lshca.org. According to the LSHCA website, High school career experience events are interactive events for high school students in the LSHCA service area to learn about healthcare careers. Students learn about multiple career areas - they have the undivided attention of the professional presenters and have time to ask lots of questions. They often get a tour of the facility, and are also provided a packet of information to take home. To register for a high school career experience event: 1. Review the session list and register for the session you are most interested in. Go to www.lshca.org for a current high school experience session schedule. 2. Complete the Career Experience Registration Form (from their website). Events will automatically close 3 to 5 business days before the date of the event. If the event is not listed in the drop down menu, the event is either full or closed. 3. Review, complete and print the information/release form (found on the website). And send to the listed facility contact person. a)turn your form in before your session start date. b)if you are under 18, your parent/guardian must sign. c)if you don t have your form on file you cannot stay at the event.
