The first day of school is fast approaching and Morgan is starting to wake up from its summer slumber. Teachers are already busy in their classrooms, getting ready for a new group of eager, smiling faces to greet on the first day of school. Our staff is just as exciting and nervous about the start of school as the kids! Will our students have a good year? Will they make new friends in class? What stories will they share with us? We can plan, clean, organize and decorate, but Morgan doesn t really come to life again until your kids are here with us to bring the energy and excitement to the new year! Our theme at Morgan this year is Red, White and Blue in honor of the big election year. You will notice stars, stipes and Red, White and Blue colors throughout the building. Our amazing Morgan Volunteers PTO has been busy organizing and decorating as well to welcome back staff and students alike. Take a look through our Welcome Back newsletter, as there are several pieces of vital information you need to have for the start of the new year. Our September newsletter will have further information about September events and other news items at Morgan. We are so eager to see you all again and hear all about your busy summer vacations! See you soon! Mrs. Lasky (formerly Balcueva)

Classroom Placement Notification This year, we are changing the way we communicate classroom assignments for our students. To provide this information to you in a more convenient and secure manner, we will be e-mailing the classroom assignment to you directly using the e-mail addresses on file. The assignment will also be shared through the Power School parent portal and through a customized App that will be available through Utica Community Schools (the app will be available to download beginning August 22). We will no longer be posting entire classroom lists on the doors of our school. The assignments will be e-mailed to all parents on Wednesday, August 31. Beginning on Thursday, September 1 the information will be available on Power School and the district s customized App. If your e-mail address has changed over the past few months, please contact the school office. ROCKET DAY Wednesday, August 31st 4-6 PM Come meet your teacher, drop off school supply donations, and pick up Back-to-School packets.

You are invited to celebrate back to school with the entire UCS community at a special night of baseball at Jimmy John s field on Friday, August 26 th. The UCS Back to School night will allow district residents and supporters to receive a special food and ticket package and watch the hometown Utica Unicorns take on the Eastside Diamond Hoppers at a 7:05 p.m. matchup at the new field, on Auburn Road in downtown Utica. For tickets, visit https://uspbl.com/events/list/ and enter the promo code UTICASCHOOLS in all capital letters. We hope to see you there. Culver s Restaurant Day Celebrate the first day of school with a lunch at Culver s Restaurant! Tuesday, September 6th will be our first Restaurant Fundraiser starting at 11:30 AM and running until 2:30 PM. The Morgan Volunteers PTO will receive 5% of all sales that day. Culver s is located at 23 Mile Rd and Hayes.

Breakfast is Served! A healthy, nutritious breakfast is a critical ingredient to the success of our students. We are pleased to announce that the school breakfast program in our district is now being offered at our school. The new offering is the result of the increasing popularity of the program districtwide and the importance our families place on making sure that students are ready for their school day. Healthy choices include cereal, whole-grain breakfast bars, yogurt, fruit and milk in the elementary buildings. Those choices, along with fresh-made hot breakfast sandwiches and other favorites are featured in the secondary buildings. Fresh-made fruit smoothies are also available in the high schools. Breakfast is served in the cafeteria prior to the start of the school day. For menu information and serving times at your student s school, please check the schools website or download the new app by searching Utica Community Schools at the App Store or Google Play. Breakfast at Morgan will begin at 8:15 AM each day. When students enter the building, they may go to the lunchroom (gymnasium) to purchase breakfast items. There will be lunch tables down for students to sit and eat before heading to class. Looking for Lunch Monitors Want to earn some extra money while spending some time with your kids? Sign up to be a Morgan Lunch Monitor! We count on our Lunch Monitors to help with playground supervision, and handing out utensils/guiding students in the lunchroom. Currently, we are allowed to have 7 adults per day help us out each day. Based on our current schedule, we have TWO to FOUR adults per day to help supervise over 300 students each lunch period. We are also looking for a Breakfast Monitor each morning for one hour, five days a week. If you are interested in becoming a paid Lunch Monitor for Morgan Elementary, please go to the PESG website and start the application process: 2016-2017 School Meal Prices To comply with federal pricing guidelines for school menus, prices have been increased for school lunches and breakfasts. Our participation in the program means that menus continue to be focused on providing students with healthy options for a nutritious breakfast and lunch. The new prices for this year are: 2016-2017 Meal Prices Elementary, Lunch $ 2.75 Junior High, Lunch $ 2.90 High School, Lunch $ 2.95 All Grades, Breakfast $1.75 http://www.subpass.com/go/enroll/ School Lunch Menus can be found at the following website: http://www.uticak12.org/districtinfo/di_foodservice.asp?tabid=1
