October 2018 Dear Parents/Carers, Our students and staff have worked very hard over this first half term, and as you can see from our second newsletter this academic year, we are yet again amazed by our students achievements and team spirit! This new school year is already packed full of exiting opportunities for our students with trips to: New York (all years); PGL Boreatton Park (Year 7); History trip to Belgium (all years); ski trip to Austria (all years); RE trip to Heaton Park (year 8); Geography trip to Edale (year 10); an awardwinning Tech trip to the University of Manchester (year 9) and last but not least the Science trip to CERN in Switzerland (year 11)! May I take this opportunity to thank all our parents, carers and families for your continued support for our school and for your understanding and patience with the visitors car park being closed until further notice at the end of school. Please note that all parents and carers are welcome to our Parent Voice meetings on 13 th February and 19 th June 2019 at 4.00pm. A huge congratulations to Amaan in year 7 who has won the Tameside Armed Services Community Competition. Amaan s winning design has been printed onto the front of poppy seed packets commemorating the centenary of the end of the First World War. SCHOOL PROGRESS REPORTS! Interim school reports will be given to all students during the first week back after the half term holidays. These will include details on each student s progress and their attitude to learning. Please note that their target grade is for the end of the current academic year.
Thank you to The Revolution who represented Hyde CC brilliantly at the Flowery Field rock school event. Instrument Lessons If you have signed-up for instrument lessons this half term, please be advised that all new starters begin lessons the week beginning 5th November. Tameside Music Service, who provide lessons here at Hyde, will be in touch in November to arrange payment. Students who earn the badge of excellence are also invited on our popular London trip in July. A massive thank you to all the students who have worked so hard to achieve the badge this half term!
SPORTS NEWS! NETBALL All five netball teams (year 7-11) have qualified for the next round of the Tameside schools competition next half term. Well done girls! Megan H (year 10) competed last weekend at the America Qualifiers Competition at Flic Flac Gymnastics coming first on floor and third on vault! A huge congratulations for your gold and bronze medal wins Megan! Wow! BADMINTON The KS3 & 4 boys and girls badminton teams have competed in the Tameside schools competitions. The KS4 girls came 2 nd, the KS4 boys came 3 rd and the KS3 girls and boys came 3 rd place. Well done! FOOTBALL The boys football teams have fulfilled fixtures this half term against Audenshaw, St Thomas More and Denton. Over forty Year 7 boys have been attending their weekly football practice - very impressive! The KS4 girls football team have competed weekly in the Tameside schools competition played at Curzon Ashton. Excellent team spirit girls! PRIMARY SCHOOLS For those who don t even yet come to Hyde CC, we have also hosted 12 local primary schools for two separate competitions in basketball and dodgeball over the last few weeks. Year 10 Winners! The following year 10 students represented our school at the University of Manchester on 20 th September as part of the Gateway to University program: Brooke W; Chloe R; Dylan W; Freshta G; Joshua S; Halima B; Kaetlyn L; Lewis P; Luke S; Nicole R; Ramisah Z and Kira R. The students won the challenge event against five other schools by making and giving a presentation, which enabled Joshua S to be elected Student Union President by means of a vote. They were an absolute credit to the school. Fantastic!

This includes no nose studs, earrings, necklaces, rings or any other piercings. CHEWING GUM We have seen an increase of students being found chewing gum. Chewing gum is not permitted within school. Please remember to return school library books! FOOD AND FRIENDSHIPS The Alpha Centre Social Lunch Club meet every Friday to eat lunch made by Mrs James, Ms Pomfret and Mrs Hevingham. The food is always made to be shared! This term they have eaten pizza and curry, rice and naan bread. On the last day of half term there will be a Halloween-themed lunch. The club promotes and encourages sharing along and communication skills as we share food, sit, eat and chat.
New Sports Captains Alicia W, Victoria O, Abbie L, Nadine B (year 10) are our new Sports Captains. These lovely girls have helped out with numerous sporting activities and have also represented our school. They have shown a great commitment to sport and have displayed great leadership skills.
