WELCOME DR. EVANS! At the Trussville City Board of Education Meeting on May 18, 2015, Dr. James Tygar Evans was hired as an elementary school principal. Dr. Evans will join Mrs. Schmitt and Dr. Jeter on the Paine Elementary Campus for the 2015 2016 school year. Dr. Evans graduated in 1984 with a BS degree in Elementary Education from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. He comes to Trussville after completing 22 years in administration in Rome City Schools in Georgia. He started his career in school administration in 1993 which included 2 years as an assistant principal at Rome Middle School, 11 years as a high school principal at Rome High School, 4 years as an elementary principal at North Heights Elementary and 5 years as principal of East Central Elementary School. Dr. Neill stated that she is delighted to have someone with 20 years of experience as a principal, especially with 9 of those years in a K-6 environment. He will bring new perspectives and an exciting dynamic as we open three K-5 elementary schools in Trussville," Dr. Neill stated. Dr. Evans holds a Doctorate of Education in Educational Leadership and Administrative degrees as Educational Specialist, Masters of Arts and Bachelor of Science from the University of Alabama. Dr. Evans first day in Trussville will be July 1, 2015. HEWITT-TRUSSVILLE HIGH SCHOOL SOCCER

What has twelve 5 edge faces, 30 edges, 20 vertices and it is one of the Platonic solids? A Dodecahedron, of course! The second grade math team at Paine Primary School made Dodecahedrons for their final project. The students created an Autobiographical Dodecahedron that illustrated 12 interesting facts about the student. PAINE PRIMARY MATH TEAM

HTMS Student Skyler Robinson played in the National Elementary Chess Championship in Nashville, TN. In his division, K-6 Under 1000, Skyler came in 8th place in the nation. There was 321 kids in his division and he came in 8th. There were a total of 7 games and Skyler won 6 and lost 1. He represented not only the state of Alabama well but also Hewitt Trussville Middle School. Congratulations Skyler! Way to go students! $501 raised by students during Spring Fling for Rotties and Notties, Donated from Mrs. Swann- Carter s Animal Rescue Club. Thank you HTMS! HTMS BAND CONCERT OUTSTANDING!

HEWITT-TRUSSVILLE HIGH SCHOOL NEWS JUST FYI The April 28 ACT results will be mailed approximately five to eight weeks after the answer documents are received by ACT. ********************************************************************************************************** LACROSSE NEWS After both teams finishing 4 th in the state at the end of the season, several players were nominated for the All State teams. Congratulations to Mitchell Peterson, Trevor McBride, John Clayton, Sarah Burden, LeAnn Guess, Stella McCormick, Alex White, Kally Bradford, and Alyssa Newman for making All State Honorable Mention. They will play in the Alabama showcase all-star game in June. Three players that made ALL STATE! These students will represent Alabama in the Southeast regional all-star game. They are one of the top 15 players in the state. This is a great honor for HTHS in just the second year of HS lacrosse. 8 th grader Lilly McCormick, 11 th gr Lizzy Witte, and 11 th gr Carter MacAlpin will represent Hewitt and the state of Alabama this summer in the regional games. CONGRATULATIONS! CONGRATULATIONS Intel International Science and Engineering Competition in Pittsburg Tyler Jackson s project, Increased Efficiency in Solar Energy for Developing Countries, won 3 rd place in the Physical Energy Category Madison and Makenzie Plyman s project, Removal of Arsenic from Contaminated Drinking Water Using 3D Beads, won 4 th place in the Environmental Engineering Category We are extremely proud of these students and their lead teachers, Chris Bond and Chris Walters. Their projects were judged by international experts in their fields. GREAT JOB!

IT IS GREAT TO BE A MILLIONAIRE (at PI)! Students who have read more than 1,000,000 words Fifth graders-122 students Fourth graders-163 students Third graders-72 students Top Fifth grade classes-bramlett and Wright Top Fourth grade classes-walls and Higginbotham Top Third grade classes-sulser and Windham Paine Intermediate had a total of 357 millionaires this year YEA! Approximately thirty-five percent of PI students became millionaires this year. THANK YOU PAINE PTO.. over $79,000 given back to our school this year! Thanks to everyone for always supporting all PTO efforts; this is a great way to end the year! The Beth Bruno Gardens at Paine Intermediate School On May 18, 2015, the faculty, staff, and students of Paine Intermediate School dedicated the school gardens to Beth Bruno, past principal of PI. Mrs. Bruno is now Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction for Trussville.

Trussville Authors Visit Paine Intermediate Trussville authors Sandra Bearden and June Matthews spoke with several 4th grade classes on Monday, May 18 about their book, Trussville, published in 2014. These knowledgeable ladies provided a rich history of our city in both words and pictures. Ms. Stacks, on behalf of Paine Intermediate School, accepted a copy of Trussville from Bearden and Matthews. UPCOMING KINDERGARTEN PARENTS Did you miss the 1st Parent Jamboree? We have another chance for you to visit Paine Primary to hear the information.
