We kick off the term with Stage 3 students embarking on their 5-day camp to Berry Sport and Recreation Centre next week. I would like to thank Mr Irish for his attention to detail in organising the camp as well as Mr Jones, Mrs Peggs, Mrs Morath and Miss McAlary for generously giving their own time to enable such a great experience for our students. I too will be attending camp and I m looking forward to kicking off the heels and enjoying some time away from the computer! Staffing It is with great pleasure I can announce that following a merit selection process, Mrs Samantha Baldock has been successful in gaining the Assistant Principal position at our school. Mrs Baldock comes to us with over 20 years of experience as a teacher and leader, most recently at Bellambi Public School. Her role at our school will be Assistant Principal for Stage 2, teaching 3/4W on Mondays and Tuesdays and then Learning and Support across Stage 2 on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Mrs Baldock will begin her role in Week 6. Until this time, Miss Royall will continue working in 3/4W and the Learning Support role. I would also like to welcome Mrs Skye Williams back from maternity leave. Mrs Williams will be working Thursdays in Stage 1 on Learning Support and Fridays teaching 2D. Lastly, Mrs Brinton has stepped into the Administrative Manager role while Mrs Bond continues her leave. During this time, Mrs Soden will relieve in the office as Administrative Officer. I would like to thank Mrs Morrison, our P&C President, Mrs Colquhoun and Mr Casham from Nareena Hills Public School for being part of the selection panel for our Assistant Principal. Your time and valuable input has resulted in an excellent appointment for our school. ANZAC Day Ceremony Our school acknowledged ANZAC Day at a special ceremony at school on Tuesday, as well a representation at the local community service last term. They did an outstanding job on this very important occasion. Thank you to our School Leaders to Mrs Kirkland and Ms Greig for coordinating the events.

Opportunity Class Applications The application process for Year 5 opportunity class placement in 2019 is about to begin. Year 4 students wishing to apply need to complete and return the Intention to Apply letter, handed out to all Year 4 students today. Please feel free to discuss this further with your child s teacher if you would like more information. Important dates in the application process are as follows: Tuesday 1 May 2018: Online applications open Friday 18 May 2018: Online applications close (Late applications will not be accepted); Wednesday 1 August 2018; Opportunity Class Placement Test. For further information, please contact the school office. Mother s Day Stall The Mother s Day stall is being held tomorrow and is a wonderful service provided by our P&C Auxiliary, enabling children to buy something special for Mother s Day. Many thanks to the P&C Auxiliary and parent volunteers for coordinating the stall this year, setting up and serving on the day. NAPLAN A reminder that all students in Year 3 and 5 will take part in the NAPLAN Online assessment beginning Tuesday 15 th May and concluding Friday 25 th May. This is the first year where students will be completing the assessments online (except for Year 3 Writing). We have ensured an optimal environment for students to complete each assessment through careful planning and timetabling. Students need to complete the assessments in the following order throughout the testing period; Writing, Reading, Conventions of Language and Numeracy. Please advise the office if you know your child will be absent during this time so we can make arrangements in the timetable. Students do not need to worry about these assessments and we ask that while we want students to come well rested and ready to do their best, we certainly don t want them to feel any performance pressure. NAPLAN should be viewed as a diagnostic tool to give information to the school and parents. It is not something that defines a child, nor is it the only demonstration of their learning or ability. We use a variety of measures to monitor and grow student achievement. Annual Report 2017 and School Plan 2018-2020 The 2017 Lindsay Park Public School Annual Report and the School Plan 2018-2020 have been published and are available for parents and the community via the school website. To access these documents, go to the Our School tab and then select School Planning and Reporting from the menu on the left hand side. I would like to thank staff, students and the community for their valuable contributions in the development of these key documents that will drive whole school improvement and excellence. P&C Meeting The May P&C meeting will be held on Tuesday 8 th starting at 7pm in the Library. All welcome. Have a wonderful fortnight. Kind regards, Jacqui Conway Principal
